Forcing surrender

Recommended Posts

I like pvp, though I'm not particularly good at it :) It would be nice to have extra options regarding pvp, hence this suggestion. It might just be completely broken, if so: discuss! I'v looked through the forum in search of other surrender-like options, but I couldn't find any like the following:

edit: incorporated a good suggestion from gant12000 as "option 2". I prefer this to my original sugg.

If you have a gun, standing close to (behind?) another player gives the scrollwheel option to:

1) "force surrender". When chosen, the victim is forced into the surrender animation as long as the distance between victim and attacker is like 5-10m.

or, less intrusive:

2) "call for surrender". When chosen, the victim is prompted by a surrender option, indicating he's being held at gunpoint. Defying this will probably be painful :) Making this a popup in the scrollwheel menu makes it very easy to use.

Of course the victim should have some sort of option of breaking free (at a risk), but I don't know how that should happen. Walking away? Break LoS? Make a desperate grab for your sidearm?

While surrendered, the attacker can loot the backpack at the very least. Also, this would free up time to use Direct Chat between both parties. I'd like to see more communication in DayZ.

Anyway, last night someone got the jump on me while I was looting. Ofc I was unceremoniously executed and it made me think - I would have done the same. It would be nice though to have an alternative. It could also generate some nice stories, me thinks.

Any thoughts? Too overpowered, or useless? Any other ideas how the surrender animation (already in game*) could be used in DayZ?

*Great vid on the surrender animation:

good idea but still... there are flaws in it, refined and a bit less overpowered it should be a good suggestion... i mean.. if im running around with an m4a3 cco sd and you got a hatcet and you by some chance actually get me into the force surrender option it would be the most lame thing ever..

i think this is a great idea, except for the forced surrender. i feel like an animation the player could do to show submission would function much better, if a player came up behind you and said surrender or i will shoot you, then the player didnt, shot fired. giving the surrendering player a mere button click to show he submits would be enough. putting his hands behind his head and going to his knees. if he, as you said, resists, he would just be shot. your suggestion is great, i dont think a whole new feature would need to be added for it. just a new animation for players. putting up their hands or something. something.

it would piss you off, but i think it would be sort of interesting if you think about it. if he says he has a gun pointed at your back, do you risk to call his bluff? what if he isnt bluffing?

I like this idea even better. Forcing surrender takes away from the choice of a player to do what he would want to do thus why I dont like it. They should add tazers for knocking people down without killing them as well. A pistol tazer gun like the ones cops use would be cool.

I agree, a hatchet should not be enough :)

Great idea! So lets say you are within say 15m of another player and aim your gun at him, you can choose to generate a popup for the victim to surrender, making it very easy: just a mouseclick and you've surrendered.

edit: this should be in the OP

there is a feature in Arma 2 to surrender, but it has not been give a key in the game, you can do this you're self by going into the arma 2 options and then go to the controls then look at the very bottom of the list you will see the surrender with out a key, click on it the hit a key you want to use then hit okay, and there you go.

I know, but a lot of people do not.

As an attacker, you might want someone to surrender, but right now there's no way to know if your vicitm will even considers that. So, forcing someone into the anim, or better still forcing a popup-option under the scrollwheel to surrender, makes it all more clear and I'd wager more used.

Yes, this would make it more like executing people. Whether you like it or not, this packs a bigger emotional punch. That's sorta what Rocket's after, right?

Yeah, sometimes I would rather have the option to force someone to the ground instead of having to waste a few rounds (and giving out my location) to kill a person and find they don't have anything I want.

I'd perfer a ranged stungun, like police issue, or tranquilizers for the CZ550. Perhaps rubber slugs for shotguns (excluding the double barrel and 1866) as well. An animation is far too buggy to be used with any amount of safety, as the player could easily swipe out a weapon and put holes in you before the server shows you he is turning around.

EDIT: And a forced surrender button would be abused, as players would camp towns and capture fresh spawns and keep them enslaved, and I'm not even going to mention the ALT+F4 problems are already ingame and how this would happen as a result of a surrender.

i like this idea. i think when.if you choose to surrender it should automatically drop all of your weapons on the floor.

the best thing about this is that 9 times out of 10 you don't have the space in your inventory to take everything from the person you have just killed making it a waste for the both of you, where as with this you can take the NVG or Binos or Beanz, and the other person will be pissed but they wont be dead.

I'd also put in a 1min shakes timer (like when you need pain killers) that automatically happens once the hold up has finished (due to the stress??) so that you can't just pick up your gun and shoot the bandit in the back to reclaim your stuff

you know what would expand on this, a shout communication channel. i dont know how direct communication's range works. but even adding a way to direct communicate for a longer distance, maybe even attract zombies as well, as it really could take this communication method to another level. shouting from the tree line to someone "DROP YOUR GUN!" and i could see people running by zombies eating a friend and shouting to get the zombies to chase them and help out for that person's rescue. also thanks for the shout out.
