How do I prevent every problem?

Okay. I'm getting frustrated. I've tried installing the game all day, and have had every common installation issue in the book with Day Z, and have reinstalled everything several times over. I'm working with Steam and just reset my Alienware M14x to factory settings last night. I'm going to be starting fresh tomorrow after work. How in the hell do I do this properly, avoiding all possible problems with installation, starting from square one, downloading Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA on Steam. I purchased ARMA: Combined Operations. Lord help me, and if you can help I'd appreciate that too. :)

I started having trouble with the most recent BE install and that's when I reimaged my laptop. Are there any new steps that I haven't heard of since then?
