DayZ wont start

So my friend just bought Arma 2 yesterday off of steam, he downloaded the newest beta patch and is trying to use sixlauncher to start up dayz but each time he loads he gets stuck on a "waiting for host screen" at or before the multiplayer setup/lobby screen. We have tried a bunch of ways (on and off the dayz forums) to fix it but none seem to work. Right now he is currently re installing arma 2 combined ops but that wont finish for another hour or two. Any suggestions or fixes for this problem.
