How do you get to the NW Airfield?

Recommended Posts

Hello there fellow survivors!

I've been playing DayZ for a while now but I've only been at the NW Airfield only once, was playing with 2 of my friends on teamspeak and we managed to kill some high geared guy in Cherno. After we killed that guy we were like fully loaded and geared enough to go to the NW Airfield and how we did it? Walking.... yeah we just walked up there and took us like 3 - 4 hours i think... we did some scavenging on our way too that probably took an hour of the time so yeah don't really feel like walking up there again...

So i've been kinda wondering do you survivors here manage to get vehicles everytime you go there? I've never seen any vehicle i could repair and if i do i probably won't get all the parts in time before someone else repaired it...

I found a bicycle in a shed recently... was fun, silent and fast to get around on. But generally i just trek.. i don't trek from a location on one side of the map to the other.. i visit every interesting place on the way.

Its the journey not the destination that i enjoy! The NW airfield is a death trap.. i prefer deer stands & heli sites for my military loot.

yes people walk there all the time unless they have vehicles. which are rare, hoarded by clanies and cheaters. if you don't like walking, you won't be playing dayz for very long.

its not called a walking simulator for no reason.

I don't dislike wakling that much lol. it just kinda ruins the gameplay a little bit.

It takes about 30 mins to run there if you dont stop. Just head straight north out of cherno untill you hit vishnoy, take the right hand road out to stary sobor, then north west to nw airfield.

I found a bike last night and holy crap is it ever nice not to have to walk everywhere.

I stashed it in some trees when I logged out, I hope it's still there! :)

I highly recommend finding one, if you can. It's not hard if you know where to look.. I actually prefer my bicycle over a car because it's quiet, and it only makes you thirsty which is easy to fix if you have a canteen.

Other than that, you got no other choice besides your 2 feet and your heartbeat. ;)

dayzdb.com/map is your friend.

Also, approach from Vybor, if you approach from the west you will most likely get shot ;)

When inside, make haste, server hoppers won't take long to get you...

Good luck!

yeah i know HOW to get there, should've changed the title to 'how do YOU get to the NW Airfield?' ....

but does it really take only like 30 minutes? because i remember it took us like from noon to afternoon.. i guess we were really scavenging and discovering too much lol. ^^

Walking is how most people get there, since all the vehicles are hidden in bushes and your chances of finding them are slim.

Dayz in its current state is essentially a hiking simulator with zombies, best get used to it.

It generally takes a few hours for me to get to the NW airfield because I'll come from the SW, loot the towns, check the gulleys to the West, and generally mess about.

You should loot the south airfield at Balota, all of the fun and none of the orienteering..

Foot Falcon..pedal to the metal all the way is a max of 40 minutes. I am surprised everytime i head up to the field that i am not stuck in the middle of a marathon group, it can be a lonely journey.

Yeah been there a lot of times since I spawn around there like 80% of all times lol.. found some nice stuff there too. But i mostly go to the NW Airfield because there are a lot of bandits there that i kill because THAT really gives the good gear you need. Perhaps you guys know other places to find bandits that are high geared?

I'm a hiker. I've lost every vehicle I've ever found to the server monster so i don't waste my time searching for them. Its my journeys where i experience the best dayz has to offer.

If I have a vehicle, great, if not, just run it. Set a waypoint if you can or just get a heading and off you go, should only take half an hour to an hour to get there from popular spawn points of the map. If you hit Starry or the supermarket strip on the way, then yeah, it'll take you longer, but you're still doing something worthwhile. I've made plenty longer runs than Cherno to NWA, once ran from Zelenogorsk to Berezino to save someone, good 14km if memory serves.

Starry is also a good place to look for some PvP if you've grown tired of hunting coastal snipers. And if no one is there, loot away.

Unless you're up for some PvP, I question why anyone would want to go to the NW airfield. I think you generally find higher grade loot at heli crashes. And if you're fairly new to the game and worry a bit about zeds, Starry is far easier to get in and out of without stirring up a hornets nest. Of course there is that sniper hill to the north....

But what some others mentioned - get a bicycle! Imo, it's the best vehicle in the game. It's quiet and doesn't need fuel. You can go 50km/hr on the flats. Also, a lot of people don't' realize, it's about the fastest vehicle off road in the game. When I respawn on the south coast, finding a bicycle is one of my first priorities. I love em.

Sometimes a good thing to do is walk up through the woods that run all along the west side of the map, because chances are you will find someones camp and sometimes these camps have vehicles! Once you reach Lopatino area just head east allong the dirt road leading through the fields and you will get to the airfield. to do this it is best to spawn at Kemenka.

OK, I'll tell you but if you follow me, or tell any other living soul, I will have to kill you with my axe, or throw my empty makarov at you!

I usually head up via Stary and then head North West, entering the south barracks first and trying to recover from the 7 pints of blood I lost while trying to drag myself under a tree and away from the zombies that attacked me a mile from the bloody barracks and came with me for the journey and a good laugh at my expense! <_<
