Alphie(SN) 32 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) If this mod actually becomes a stand-alone game, I suggest cities get larger the further you go inland. The coast can have villages, then go inland further to townships, then to small cities, then to large urban cities. Something like on the scale of New York city or Tokyo. There would be sewers, subway tunnels, bridges, etc. The loot gets better the further inland you go, but so does the risk as there are more zombies in larger towns. The reason I suggest this, although I love this mod, the urban areas don't quite feel like I'm in a city when I can see from one end of town to the other without moving. It also generates some interesting play changes and end-game elements like stashing your gear on the 80th floor of a tower or bandit gangs owning parts of the city, etc. Edited July 17, 2012 by Alphie(SN)
FDFj 28 Posted July 17, 2012 I like this, just what I had in mind. Although I think Arma's engine/server tech can't handle realistic high density cities, but IF they were to develop a engine of their own.. now that I would like to see :)
Foogals (DayZ) 61 Posted July 17, 2012 True, but on the logical side of things Big cities would be by/on the coast. Docks, trade routes, and fishing business to be had. Still, more cities would be interesting.
Mona 0 Posted July 17, 2012 I think there are gonna be some big citys in arma
Alphie(SN) 32 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) The current "cities" are really pathetic in size and scope. Here is what I was suggesting for a far away from the coast city.It would take months of normal player time to work thru something that massive and it would be a great change of pace from the open field, running from town to town that we have in game now. amudkipz 46 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) There should be a massive coastal city (5 to 6 times cherno or electro) with inland cities being 3 or 4 times the size of cherno or elektro. It would make sense that a city along the coast be large as it's part of a trade route for super tankers. This won't happen but it would be cool to see. jay.pis 32 Posted July 17, 2012 Definitely a good suggestion. I've been thinking the same thing as well but more in the lines of having one big major city like New York for example and have a stretch of farmlands further out of the city. The awesome feature would be a huge explorable city with scy-scrappers that are all enter-able with an underground sewer and subway network system.
Inista 5 Posted July 17, 2012 If it makes it standalone i would like to see something like Manhatten as a capital city, access via underground, bridge and boats an so on.

Evan858 3 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) The thing is though, this is a russian controlled island, its in poor economic state as the two biggest cities arnt even that big. And they're the trade cities, but anyways the big cities would be on the coast, such as Elektro and Cherno. The smaller villages with only minor importances would be the inland ones, such as Pusta, i hate that place. But anyway i get youre idea, but its an island. Coast cities are going to be more important due trade Edited July 17, 2012 by Evan858

First it would take a good amount of time to make each building different or somewhat different AND "enterible". Second would the server's/ player's computers be able to handle 100 buildings that have X amount of loot spawns etc... Third how many zombies would spawn because servers now can handle about 2000ish zombies if need be and when there is 1000ish zombies per every big city that's going to put a huge amount of stress on servers.Cool idea and I'd love to see it (Like a new york map etc... or LA) but I don't know if it's possible with today's average computer. Also at the same time I'm sure the standalone version won't stray too far from the current server setup as in NOT having thousands of players in the same server, more like 200-300 would be ideal. adamtheheretic 106 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) +1 However I don't think something the scale of New York should be built as it's very difficult especially to traverse it without a vehicle and no doubt most locations would be grid locked as well as packed with zombies. I suggest large cities GTA Map size-esque. Edit:The thing is though, this is a russian controlled island, its in poor economic state as the two biggest cities arnt even that big. They may choose a different location as a basis of the game so there may be larger cities (I hope) and different weapon selections (I also hope for this).
