character almost never saves?

Been playing DayZ 2 days now and my character almost never saves. Whenever I join I have to pick a gender and start from scratch every time. Am I doing something wrong or is it just alpha.

Getting really annoying now because I just lost an SUV I had

It's Alpha. The connection sometimes goes poopy and you char won't be saved during that time. Happens to me sometimes as well.

You could possibly be joining a server that isn't connected to the official hive, thus not saving your character on other servers.

This is not just because of Alpha. If you really need to restart EVERY time then it is something else. My char won't save maybe 1 out of 15 times or so. Have you tried different servers? As the dancing russian stated above maybe you are on an unofficial server?!
