Improvise: Friend or Foe signalling

I'm reading lots of posts regarding friend or foe and a growing shoot-on-sight mentality. There are items in the game that could help: e.g. how about throwing green smoke if you are friendly [approach without fear], White smoke for neutral [leave me alone] and red smoke for warning [freeze! leave!]?

If there's no time to throw smoke or if all parties are surprised then it's probably possible to use the 40 metre range direct chat anyway. Moreover, chaotic knee-jerk reactions without any signals are interesting in and of themselves.

This is just one idea I can think of that may solve some situations and create more dialogue and intrigue between players with the tools that we currently have within this experimental alpha test. Come on, let's use our brains and initiative - we are humans after all. There must be other people brighter than me that can formulate and promote some signalling system?

Its doesnt matter to me if you are friend or foe. If you look really nice in my crosshairs then you are dead...

unfortunately with how uncordinated lowering or raising your rifle is in this game it wont be that easy.

if you could quickly lower/raise rifle (not having to stand up, and be still for maybe 3 seconds) trust could be had with lowered guns, if someone raised their gun the other would too and shoot e.t.c.

At this point in the game there's no great way to do it, if u have the mic option you can try it but it just comes down to who your run into and what circumstances. Even if some way to signal friendly is added you cant always trust signals because it all comes down to on the other side of the screen.

i still think its more the gun pointing, if guns could be lowered it wouldnt be as bad. if you point a gun at someone in real life thats a signal of fuck you get ready to die.

its a game relax...i enjoy pvp

id still like to see the game become more of a simulator where people really consider what they are doing when they kill someone. but i do it all the time too. but i dont play it for the pvp. if i wanted to play it for the pvp id play vanilla arma2 probably.

If flashlights could be used without taking over the sidearm, a direct on/off flash whilst saying friendly COULD be effective.

Unfortunately it also just shows your location to other players who may not be as friendly.

isnt this what the saulte was used for, and then abused *lol*

A meets B, A salutes, B salutes back, A walks over to B and emptys the clip point blank

although the smokes a fun idea in town,

A meets B, A pops green smoke next to B, zombies are attracted to smoke, B runs the hell away dragging them with him

or the abused version

A meets B, A pops green smoke, B appears to be popping smoke but throws a frag, then does a barrel roll on A's corpse

what happens if ive only found a red smoke nade but im actually friendly? what if i havnt found any smoke yet?

at least the salute anyone can do

Friend or foe signalling is using teamspeak and telling your friends "I am approaching your position from west, I have an Enfield out."

The game does need some type of markings or custom color choices so you can identify your friends or clan easier.

The smoke grenade idea wont work though simply because you wont have a smoke grenade at all times, and certainly not the right color. Furthermore, anyone dumping smoke grenades in my direction is getting treated as a hostile regardless of color on smoke.

How is this going to make any difference, people are still going to shoot you, regardless of what smoke you throw.

I for one, have no problem with using direct chat, it works and I've met many people through it, friendly and foe.
