Server Hosts are really wimping out....

Recommended Posts

So yeah I have a small handful of servers I play on regularly, they're good servers, rarely have any lag related issues and me and my tiny group of survivors can play together on them without too much issue.

Problem is though, I'm like 3 days alive now and I don't think its EVER been night time on the server that we've been playing on regularly and every server I go to seems to have the same inordinately long day cycle.

Seriously last night we were all playing on a certain US Texas server, all our watches said it was around 10 minutes to 10PM, we decided to take a quick break, so we found a nice place to bunker down, and everyone logs out.

About 30 minutes later after everyone had eaten and done whatever, we get back on Teamspeak and log in...and, its still bright as day on the server when we get in, I check my watch and its now 4PM as far as the server is concerned.

So we logged off and it was nearly 10PM, we log back in and its 4PM?

This isn't just the one server we play on most regularly but almost every server in my handful of servers we regularly float too depending on population levels and all of them are always day time, even servers that are GMT + or - the same number are always day time.

What gives here? How can you log out of a server that has a server time of nearly 10PM and log back into the same server and be six hours earlier in the day?

Come on guys, play it straight, seriously.

I am sorry your multiple servers do not give you the night advantage of using your NVGs or playing with Brightness and Gamma up.

It's often because of servers not being reset to my knowledge. If it's a huge problem I would suggest getting yourself set up to host a server so you have control of resets/time.

Yeah. The night is terrifying. I think the time should simply match the time of that time zone. Gives the rush of traffic just enough time to find a weapon or some light before night time hits. you know? Like its a terrifying but fun part of the game.

I wouldnt mind knowing what servers those are. I know plenty of people like to say that they love nighttime servers, and good for them. But me, I can't play on them. It gets too dark to see the gun in my own hand. This is not immersive (unless I am unwittingly playing a sensory deprevation tank simulator), not realistic in the least, and lastly not fun. Finding a few nice low ping servers that never go to night time would be a heaven sent.

ye I agree. I wish every server would stick to its timezone

Gamma/Brightness settings have server side clamps now, they're not half as useful as they were in 1.7.2.

What I'm saying is without the night cycle, the game loses much of its sense of dread that it does have. Surviving the day is easy. And if the day never ends...the game stays easy.

And in my group, I'm the only person that has a set of NVG's, this isn't about "wanting advantages" this is about wanting the environment to be challenging and at times, even scary.

Zombies and daylight aren't very scary.

I prefer playing at night time but only on a server where visibility is reasonable, I can't stand servers that are solid black and for some reason the sky is lit up like a fire.... its not immersion, its retarded. Even in the darkest of nights my eyes would be able to adjust to the faintest amount of light being reflected from the clouds and moon light. When I server hop trying to find a good server to play on for the night, I often find those solid black servers are completely empty and the ones with a reasonable level of visibility are actually quite popular, I'm not a fan of day time because I like to keep in the shadows... I don't have NVG either.

i strongly disagree with the servers only playing to their own time zone, i can only play from 2200hrs and like to play in daylight as well from time to time, having to play on a distant server to achieve this will kill my latency

Once you've got sources of light and some friends, its fun! It's even scarier because you can't see much but everything can see you lol

The server I play has been on day for 48h

Exactly and the only people that I'm aware of that can keep adjusting time cycle at the server controls are the admins.

As a server host, go pound dirt or buy your own. You should feel fortunate someone is even paying for you to play.

LOL entitlement much? I could run a rack of DayZ servers if I wanted to, I've got the servers and the bandwidth to do it.

Christ if I just went and BOUGHT a server from someone else it would be even easier cause I'd pay less for that monthly than I would dedicating one of my blades to running my own server.

DayZ has 1500 servers for its ALPHA already. I shouldn't have to run one of my own just to put up a server where the admins play just like everyone else.

So as someone who has more colocated datacenter space than you do Mr Server Host who bought your DayZ server from a game hosting operation, just cause you're paying a paltry 50 - 75 bucks a month doesn't mean you get to play god with timezones to your liking.

NVG isnt needed, just helpful, i wish they would remove them or add static (or severely limit vision rang with them).Military grade weapons should be incredibly rare, this is backwater Russia, AK's should be the average automatic weapon, and military sniper rifles should be practically non-existant.

I actually agree with this personally. I want it to be scrounging for survival, I've often felt the high end milgrade spawns just weren't worth it or were unbalanced in the feel of the rest of the game.

I mean even if i have an L85 AWS, that doesn't mean as some random survivor that just washed up on a beach, that I'd be able to competently use such an advanced piece of military hardware. I'd love to see the milgrade stuff tapered down to what would usually be found as military surplus or as hunting supplies.

I'm definitely not attached to my NVS or my combined optics on the L85. I want the night to be dark and dreadful and force me to consider where I was going to wait it out and to have that sense of dread that comes along with not knowing if I'm going to survive to see the next sunrise.

And unfortunately since most server admins think that paying a server bill allows them to do whatever they want, we get stuck with servers that never see night time at all and the only time you really end up in a threatening situation is when you run across the server admin and his friends and they decide they don't like the fact that you figured out where they were hiding every vehicle on the server and decide to kill you, then ban you so you can't come back and find it again.
