Tent got emptied

Recommended Posts

So had a full tent last night, went in today and it's completely empty.

Are there bugs that are known to wipe a tent's contents or did someone seriously vacuum up every last bit of scrap from it?

I've often lost the contents of my tent on a server restart. It seems pretty random whether or not your stuff will be safe.

Check back in a couple of hours, if it was the server it may be back. I've had it happen several times, but the server I play on has always recovered.

So there've been times when you went in, it was empty, then came back to find it recovered? Dam you for getting my hopes up now! lol

I always keep my gear in a vehicle as tents are prone from being wiped on server restarts found out the hard way and lost to M249's :(

Damn :/

It was about 5-6 rifles, a silenced mp5 and a bit of everything ranging from bandages, foods, meds etc

Definitely didn't have any nv stuff

edit: So can anyone say with any degree of accuracy how likely a server restart is to wipe it? If it's anything more than 50% I don't think I'll bother again.

There's a trick to tents. Sent one up and put only one item in it. Keep checking the tent after a server reset. If that one item made it through the server save that tent is now "safe" and will always save items every reset. Sometimes it can take like 3 resets where you lose the 1 item but keep trying and it will eventually work.

This is exactly what we do. Once we deem it "stable", then we put more items in it. It's almost funny how many tents we find with only one item in it - all of those people just waiting to be able to actually use their tents due to the glitches.

I think ur little trick is just a mental trick more than anything. The whole you see what you wanna see. I have never done anything other than place a tent, put items in it, save and it always works. If there is any trick at all, it's playin on servers with competent admins that understand the patching/upgrading process. The server I play on gives me a scare here and there, but the tents seem to always get restored eventually.

Tents appear to be glitchy still, lost an AS50, M4A1 CCO SD, a Range Finder and some other tools today due to one.

That may be, but we've lost a lot of stuff before by setting up a tent and putting items in it right away. There is definitely a glitch related to tents. I once set up three new tents, unloaded an entire Ural (we stole it) full of items into the tents and after the next restart two of the tents were completely empty, but the third was perfect (they were all 10 feet from each other). I performed the same steps on each tent myself.

Any way of knowing a server had restarted? Or its schedule of restarts?

That is, other than finding your tent empty.

Not really. Some of them say when they restart, but we generally just wait a day or so and then go back.

Agreed, there are definitely plenty of bugs with them. I'm just sayin I have never had a tent wipe and not get restored. I have even experience two different versions of this. Tents gone and restored and tents wiped and restored. So there are ways for the server admins to correct the issue when they are lost due to server restarts or upgrades.

The one time my tent didn't get restored, it was quite feasible that it was completely looted based on the location and amount of items I had in the tent.

I guess you had no luck with ur tents being restored? If not by now then you are hooped. =(

Damn. You say there's a chance for a restore?

I have been using a tent for six days with no big problems (original character died, but me and a friend kept it active). Only once there was a strange bug when some of the stuff was gone and other stuff was duplicated. It's a miracle no one looted it, since I left it in a rather visible place (it was my first tent, I didn't know better, and since that char died I can't relocate it).

Yesterday I had a brand new tent up (didn't know about the "check thrice, make sure it's good" routine). Left 5 weapons -including an m24 and m4a1ccosd me and my friend stole from a huge camp-, loads of ammo, meds and tools inside. It was packed pretty full. Next time I login, the tent is empty. Now, I'm pretty sure it wasn't looted - cause who the hell has enough room in the bag to loot 50 general items and 5 weapons? so I just decided to pack it and move it elsewhere. You say if I had left it alone there's a chance my items would hav ebeen restored? damn.

Also, since I lost everything, I made a trip earlier today to the large camp I had looted from earlier. As I opened the tents, they had the *exact same* items they had before I looted them. I looted the sniper and an MG, went back to my original camp and... it was all still there!!! It's a bit like the server "froze" all tents at a certain point, and any new tents have their contents wiped, while old tents (ie. the ones in the camp I looted) are restored. Very annoying.

On another server, I set up another tent, very well hidden, 70% inside a tree. When I came back, this one, too, was empty, only there was another tent up right besides it! First thing I thought was "how the hell did someone find the tent and why the hell did they set up another besides it?" I unpacked my own original tent, and because it's inside the tree foliage, I can't pick it up. "dammit, lost another tent", I thought. I decided to check the new tent that was by the side, tho, and lo and behold, there's the option to "pack tent", as if it was my own! so I packed it and stored in my bag. Few hours later, I return to the same server, and the same scene is there again! empty tent inside the foliage, empty tent outside which I can dismantle. End of story, I lost several items that were inside the tent, but I recovered my original tent and got another one for free.

TL;DR: Tents are behaving VERY strangely in this latest patch.

Did you ever pitch your tent and not like the spot so you picked it up and pitched again? That could cause your double tent issue. A bug I really wish they would fix cause it allows for way more tents on a server that should ever be there and, it's just plain cheating.

My other big concern with tents right now is that these servers may be reseting to a previous state on purpose to get lost loot back. =(

Think about it, I probably did! I was trying to pitch, and once it worked, it was a bit too exposed, so I picked it up and pitched it inside the foliage. Again, all loot that was inside the tent in the tree vanished upon restart. Also, I lost another tent that was packed inside a wiped tent, so I suppose it's only fair I pick the duplicated tent up to minimize my losses.

My other big concern with tents right now is that these servers may be reseting to a previous state on purpose to get lost loot back. =(

The thing about resetting to get loot back makes sense. The server I was playing in is maintained by a clan which, of course, regularly plays in it. So maybe the tents we looted could be theirs, and they reset tents so they could get back the three weapons we looted (FAL nightscoped, m4a1ccosd, m24)? Is it even possible? If they did so, it was kinda pointless, since we moved in and looted them again (this time for an m24 and mk48). It would also be kinda silly, since they had a huge arsenal in their fully exposed and unprotected tent city (FAL, m24, m14, revolver, several mk48s, several m4a1ccos, the works); would those missing guns really be worth a server reset?

You crazy kids and your tents.

1. If you place a tent and then pack it up after the next reset there will be a tent exactly where you "packed" it up. It will never ever go away. You can just keep packing tents and setting it up and after each reset the tents will be back.

2. Always test the tent with 1 item. Several other people have said this to be true. If you read the patch notes Rocket himself says there is a %50 chance a tent will make it through a server save. That's where the testing with 1 item thing comes along

3. Why do people think admins have all these special powers? Literally the most they can do is restart the server which will put the time back maybe 5 minutes but most of the time doesn't. The only thing an admin could really do to fuck you over is to see you driving his car and reset the server and the car will go back to the last place that either you got out or was saved too. So when your stealing someones vehicle drive like 5 minutes away and jump out and save it and there is nothing he can do then.

OK, this clears up a few things. The tent duplication thing, i now know about it and will avoid, especially because it will cause a perfectly hidden tent to be given out by another one. I might throw a grenade to try and destroy the dupes, do you think that might clear the problem permanently, or will resets still spawn new tents?

Also, how did those tents we looted get restored to the very same contents again? We took three rare weapons and ammo, and the exact three were back in place in the very same tents of the tent city within a couple hours (whereas our own tent where we had stashed this loot and our other stuff was empty)
