SpiritSharD (DayZ) 1 Posted May 19, 2012 Hello all,I'll get straight to the point; I spent 3-4 hours today travelling in-land, exploring various towns, searching many buildings etc, and I've come to the conclusion that there is very little incentive to go in-land other than to stay safe from other players and to go sight-seeing.In those 3-4 hours, FOUR buildings out of the many I entered contained equipment. Out of those four buildings, non of them had anything particularly new or interesting that I couldn't find near the starting areas. This was particularly disappointing, as I had suspected that the further in-land you were, the more and better equipment you could happen to come across. Don't get me wrong; it was entertaining to avoid zombies and see new locations on the map, but towards the end I just got so bored I ended up shooting zombies at the far North airfield and getting myself swarmed and killed. It simply begs the question why anyone would want to travel vast distances on the island to visit towns with one or two houses available to explore, with little to no loot of any particular importance/value? The equipment I did find on my travels I could have easily acquired in Cherno, Electro or any other coastal town.I'm not entirely sure what could be implemented to make the experience of heading in-land better, but to me it certainly feels as though it's an area that could be improved upon. Admittedly this is entirely based on my own experiences, and that I may simply have had a bad run and not encountered any of the goodies other players could possibly be finding. I understand people may (probably will?) disagree with this, but I thought I'd post up anyway.Happy surviving/hunting! :)
Nitrous (DayZ) 0 Posted May 19, 2012 Youre going to the wrong places bud. The best gear is all to be found inland (Army barracks & Airfields etc). Be more adventurous and youll reap the rewards!
SpiritSharD (DayZ) 1 Posted May 19, 2012 Youre going to the wrong places bud.More than likely, but still...it would be nice to have an incentive to visit the smaller towns and villages as well, not just military bases. Also, I found nothing when I reached the far North airfield. I was quite surprised, and I suppose someone could have cleared it out...but it seems unlikely that anyone was that far in-land.
simasz 15 Posted May 19, 2012 Part of the fun is finding the places that contain lots of loot (for example factories, army camps, etc :) )
SixPackAbs 13 Posted May 19, 2012 Go to Stary sobor, or the nw airfield, there will be the equipment you seek.I go inland because it is a different game. The bandits out there are killing for survival (most of the time) instead of just for fun. There are groups of 15+ that you will run into, opening up opportunities for trade, stealth, grouping up to hold entire sectors of the map, and even betrayal. The game becomes a lot more than bean wars when you head far north.
UbiquitousBadGuy 846 Posted May 19, 2012 I too, would like to see more incentive for being out in the Wilderness. I was thinking maybe more wildlife or simple consumables like drinks and food should spawn to make people a bit more self-sufficient in the woods. Of couse, they best rewards will always be the towns but there should be some reward for hiking up well past the treeline. As for Stary Sobor, I once traveled 4 hours to get there but when I arrived, I was kicked from the server. Rejoining, I found that the entire place picked clean of supplies likely resulting in my new server selection. To make things worse, a bandit found me while I was at my most vulnerable and shot me after I killed his buddy. I wound up on the coast. My point is, with all the spawns near the coast, it makes it less worthwhile to solo all they way up to some of the remote areas when you can picked off easily by some paranoid player/bandit/Zed. Would people be interested to see a very controlled number of spawns added further inland?
auzt1n06 1 Posted May 19, 2012 I would think more weapons would be found at military bases and more food would be found in cities and small towns. But loot points and items there in will be tweaked in future builds, hopefully.
terrvik 2409 Posted May 19, 2012 Could probably be solved by spicing the map up with more lootable spots. Like some towns could have police stations where sidearms are found, small medical shops or drug stores for painkillers and antibiotics, smaller supermarkets for canned foods etc. Just place one content specific building in every town (well probably not EVERY town) to give players reasons to travel around to get a well rounded inventory. -Sin- 5 Posted May 19, 2012 I see what he's saying. But things like the NW Airfield and Stary / Novy Sober tend to be those few areas where you get one well equipped bandit who is just camping the area for spawns.Me and two other friends who really don't do jack shit to nobody. Wandered up to the NW Airfield. There was 3 other people on the server with us. So 6 in total. We got up to NW Airfield. And it's clear this guy had Nightvision so he could clearly see that we didn't have bandit skins. He put a bullet in my one friend. Missing my other a few times, and then asked. "Are you dead and or dying?" Then shot him dead and said; "Nevermind Lmao" Luckily I could take cover and get out of there. But I have yet to see that type of environment up in the North. My experiences so far have been people with Night vision and silenced weapons camping weapon spawns. Not killing to survive or big groups who are looking for members or to trade and such. Which would be nice if I could come across that. However all the gear I've found is on par with what's up north and I find it in the first two major cities. Cherno and Electro. Hell my body found himself an AK47 Cobra. And it was at the Cherno power plant. So the majority of good gear can be found near the start with no real danger outside of player population to worry about. As the increased amount of players keeps the zombies busy. B00tsy (DayZ) 19 Posted May 19, 2012 The problem of the smaller towns is that it only contains only a few buildings that you can enter (usually the red house). As the loot is always inside buildings the smaller inland towns are not really the trouble to risk your virtual life for. Maybe Rocket can add some more A2 buildings to the smaller towns that you can enter and contains a variety of loot.

Not because I'm dying, but because it takes me over half an hour to hike inland again. :PI may be one of the exceptions, but I have almost that exact setup you described and I spend by far the majority of my time acting as advanced scout/force recon helping out other players, be they friends I regularly roll with or even new players fresh off the beach (generally then only if I have a sufficiently large enough group of my friends that I feel safe picking up a couple new guys, one time it was 6 of us regulars and we picked up a couple new guys off the beach and let them tag along with us all the way to NWAF, the two new guys wound up joining our group on a more permanent basis too).Just last night one of my friends got killed so I walked all the way back down to the beach, found him, and lead him up to Stary and the NWAF using my binocs+NVG's to make sure the areas were clear and then my M4 SD to quickly cut a path through the zombies without alerting the horde. In less than two hours I had got him requiped from Mak and Beans to DMR+M9SD and Steak. While I do genuinely enjoy helping other players in the game here's something for the loners to consider: Doing this is a form of buying health insurance. The more well-equiped friendly people you have with you, the less likely you're going to get ganked by those guys described by Sin and end up back on the coast fighting in the bean wars. The last time I did die, I had enough of these good friends around that I was able to recover ALL of my gear. Some of them didn't have NVG's or silenced weapons yet but because they knew I would help them out in any situation, they not only guarded my body for the half hour it took me to hike back, but they returned [i']all of my gear to me. That's the kind of teamwork that makes it all worth it.
SpiritSharD (DayZ) 1 Posted May 20, 2012 Bump for more discussion. :)At the very 'least, I'd like to see more loot spawns in and around town in an effort to make them appealing to visit. It's fun and intense to challenge oneself to avoiding loads of zombies whilst crawling through towns, but unless there's a reason to do so you may as well just run around them; having a 200km+ is all well-and-good, but if most of the "content" is in the starting area then it's no wonder people just stick to the coast. I'm not sure how difficult/time-consuming it would be to implement, or even if the devs would want to do this in the first place, but another idea would be to add additional, enter-able houses to towns, as well as as some just off roads.I'm just thinking of ways to make going in-land more appealing. :)
BurstFire (DayZ) 1 Posted May 20, 2012 I have to agree with the OP. Okay, military bases/camps/towers, airfields. What else? Nothing to be honest, considering the amount of enterable buildings there are. That isn't a valid response at all, of course those locations will contain decent stuff but the cities still come out strong and as mentioned, it's a camping ground for bandits and even more riskier for you as they're so open. We're on about the locations in between. I'd never properly been to the 2 cities until yesterday after I'd died, but when I did I found most of and even more of my gear that took me ages to obtain inland, in just an hour. There does need to be more incentive, definitely better spawns and maybe less tin can spawns too, so many =_=
