bow and arrows

Recommended Posts

If you find a knife you could use it to cut a piece of wood from a tree.

You could make arrows from this combined with feathers from chicken and glue.

If you would also find a string, you could combin it with piece of wood, and make it into a bow.

You could also construct an arrowhead from metal, stone, glass, or bone, using a toolbox.

attaching it to the arrow's tip by lashing the arrowhead to the wood with a string, increasing the damage. You could combine the arrows with a dead zombie to make it poisonus for other players, or cloth combined with a jerry can to make fire arrows, that would set other players on fire.

I would support this, although I'd probably not ask them for all the different tips..

I support anything that means more player crafting/self-sufficiency.

Sure, most people would go for a rifle, including myself.. but why not have some variety?

They should add a bolt quiver for the crossbow first, then perhaps add this, with the bolt quiver used for arrows.

At the very least, let bolts stack.

Just make arrows stackable. Not or make a quiver

For a quiver: a shirt, blanket or some leather combined with a string.

needle & thread + knife as tools.

Without a decent amount of training and/or experience making a bow that would fire more than 10 ft effectively is nearly impossible.

You're a Survivor, not a Fletcher...unless you are...which would then make some amount of sense except for the fact that the occupation has been pretty much dead for more than 100 years.

You'd be much better off looting a sporting goods store for such things, not only will it be better made, it'll be faster than trying to make it yourself.

But every one knows how to use guns and fix cars?

I think that you should be able to find a Bow in a Deer Stand and some arrows, and arrows can also be found in barns and remote resident loot spawns, but bow ONLY spawn in Deer Stands it would make the most sense to have them spawn there.

Something worth implementing with a skill system maybe? The more you shoot your bow (or other weapon) the more accurate you can handle it. The longer you stay alive the more skills you can build up...

why does it make sense for a bow to be found in a deer stand?

how long would it take to make the bow useful?

I think you would need to do the same to guns also then.

Just make the cross bow ammo appear in quivers, don't need to build the damn thing, lol. It's not like we're finding random bullets on the floor and building the magazine ourselves.

Sorry if this is rude, but this is not needed at all in my opinion.

sure, that would be nice also.

but i think it would make the bows more desired if you can make your own ammo.

But every one knows how to use guns and fix cars?

Using guns is pretty simple. Fixing guns is complicated, so is making or modifying them. Point and shoot, reload when empty, easy.

Fixing cars is a lot simpler than most people think, all you need to do is find out what's broken and replace it.

You're not rebuilding parts from scratch, you're just swaping a broken part for a working one. If you can follow a set of instructions to assemble a home appliance you can fix a car.

Carving a wooden bow from scratch is very complicated and more of an art than a science

You need to pick the right wood. It needs to be the right size and shape, it needs to not have flaws or knots.

You need to know how to treat it so it bends and flexes properly, It needs to be able to store the energy of a draw without snapping or deforming.

If you're making a compound bow you need to know how to work with non-wood materials like bone or metals.

If you're not making a compound bow its effective range is going to be 30-50m, and that's if you're an ace shot. A compound bow MAY get your effective range to 100m.

Or you can go to the local sporting goods store and grab a compound pulley bow that would put anything you could make out of a piece of wood to shame.

And right next to it you could find some really awesome fiberglass or carbon composite arrows and serrated steel arrow heads with extremely durable synthetic fletching.

Your call...

Making a bow is not what i would do in a survival situation, it needs way to much resources and way to much work... if you want a somewhat decent ranged weapon that is easy to make and doesn't need a lot of resources (2 sticks is basically enough), you make an Atlatl :)

So every one and their grandmother know how to use a gun and fix a car, or fly/fix a helicopter, fine.

Lets just find that compond bow from a store then, but make our own arrows?.

skyrim is a survival mmorpg?

No, but neither is DayZ.

A bow is a dumb idea. Even a crossbow is an extreme, and the bolt problem has it's own threads. I'm just going to mention that it doesn't take a genius to reload a gun, load a round into the chamber and fire (safety on, off, if the weapon has one). Even a moron can hit the target of a person at around 100 meters. That same person can't aim a bow, much less build it.

Infact, most people can use a bow effectively outside of 35 yards, which is easily in the range of a pistol. And a rifle can hit you from 300 meters with ease.

Have you ever tried to build a bow? A piece of wood and a string does not make a bow. And with the whole, "It is silent" sure. But so is a crossbow, and that can be more accurate with much better accuracy at longer ranges. Could a modern compound bow like those found in Walmart be ingame? Sure, but it would act just like a crossbow.

So no support from me.
