No AI!!! It would totally ruin the immersion of the game. Zombies are the perfect AI.. Brainless and predictable, operating under an understood set of programming. Every live survivor/human you meet will have intelligence and should be treated with care. AI soldiers are just zombies with guns...

Definitely a -1 on this idea, in my view.

it would be really annoying if you wander into a soldiers sight range without seeing them and all of a sudden all these guns just mow you down in an instant.

Then you should have been paying more attention, which is probably the reason you die from bandits to begin with. Finding one of these military convoys was a blast before E3. Granted they were hacked in, but it gave people something different to do, and a different goal to work towards. It adds another level of immersion since this would be a pretty realistic scenario (military trying to take a town back over). I know Rocket said he wants to take a back seat and not really run these events, but I think they'd be fun. It doesn't have to be the primary focus in the game, but it would definitely help add another level to it.

yes, lets remove the zombie npc`s also

Yeah, good comparison there.

Unfortunately NPC's are never going to happen, so unless these are roaming patrols of players, then yeah, nah.

i think this is a fantastic idea, i don't really understand why people think this would ruin the immersion as in an actual zombie apocalypse, there is going to be surviving military units in most countries and whether they're cleansing the area trying to regain control, or like it was stated, just roaming around scavenging that is no doubt bound to happen in an actual occurrence. Examples are like 28 days/weeks later, yes i understand they're movies but its plausible. Ive read all the things against having AI so i know im going to get backlash, but the point being, the world is pretty much dead but its not just going to be zombies and us the survivors, there is going to be military out there still and whether implemented or not it just makes sense.

So yeah, have my beans +1

Make it a random group of military personel that survived which enters the server at some point and starts cleaning up. They shoot everything on sight since they cant distinguish infected from not infected and they are completely paranoid so they like to stick to the roads and move from town to town.

I like the idea of some NPCs in general but making them very scarce so that we dont get used to seeing humans all over the place. It would be sweet to ambush such a group.

That's my point exactly. A randomly spawned number of randomly equipped soldiers who wander between the smaller towns, just to make entering these towns somewhat more dangerous. We could even mix it up and add in ordinary civillians into the group who are somewhat like slaves and have no weapons but bags with assorted goodies.
