How does out of bounds vehicle despawn work?

I ask because I've hidden two vehicles on two different servers far out of bounds, and thus far it's been 3 days and they still haven't been despawned.

I decided to undertake this little experiment after my attempts at combing the woods for a few days beforehand failed to find a single vehicle. I've a feeling a lot of people realize the 6 hour despawn timer isn't working and are still hiding stuff out there.

Hiding vehicles out of bounds is just wrong. If people are so paranoid at losing their vehicle and just want to horde it for no other reason then just storing guns and crap where nobody can get it then you are an exploiter. Exploiting a game flaw for ones own selfish needs is just wrong.

Personally I think a vehicle needs to explode the moment it is driven out of bounds taking the driver and whoever is in it back to the beach.

It's exactly what people would do in real life, hoard the vehicles and rare items.. Out of bounds is ghetto though, I've never done that, however, even as a server admin, I wonder how many are outside of my map boundaries... This is why my interest is perked at this experiment, keep it updated!

Day 4, vehicles still haven't despawned. Items are still inside of them.

I forgot to mention I put down a tent on one server as well, which is still out there - though I believe those have to be manually purged by the dev team, so I wasn't expecting it to go away quickly.

A friend and myself just tried to park a tractor somewhat near the out of bounds, not actually out of them, ran away for maybe 30 seconds and it seems to have disappeared.

I'm not terribly inclined to trust somebody who registered two minutes before the one post he has on his account, but believe what you will. I might post a picture of the tractor tomorrow when it's daylight, not that it would prove anything.

I registered my account for the sole purpose of this post. We lost a tractor with a few guns tons of ammo and supplies, and its a bit disheartening when we were well within bounds.

It must have gotten stolen or despawned due to a bug, then. I've had a camp very near the edge of the map for weeks now and haven't lost any vehicles from it. Anything within boundaries isn't supposed to despawn unless it isn't used for a week.

I've been patrolling around the map borders for the last 3 days riding on my ATV having a GPS and Map handy, covering most of the Northern and Nort East forests.

Except the occasional tents, ATVs and Red UAZ, I failed to find any significant high tier vehicle whatsoever.

This tends to make me believe that people still hoard the vehicles outside of the map boundaries.

Only stopped looking in the direction of the tractor for 30 seconds or less. Only thing that could have happened was a despawn and for what reason, I do not know.

... what? The vehicles I've hidden out of bounds are one tractor with one gun in it, and one bicycle on a separate server. My truck and my regular camp are hidden in bounds.

Because I wanted to test if the despawn for out of bounds vehicles is working properly. Did you read anything in the first post?

They despawn if unused for 7 days no matter where they are. If they're out of bounds, they're supposed to despawn after 6 hours. It isn't working, though.

Yes, you can see the edge of the map marked with a big black line when you get close and no grass or trees grow beyond that point. It will be obvious that it's out of bounds when you see it.

I ran a truck about 4k meters off map to see what happened. I saved a few times logged off. The next morning it was gone. Either it was located by another person on foot/vehicle or it despawns on a server restart (the 2nd is what I am guessing) and then teleports back to the saved location that was the last saved ON map. This is all just opinion and I have no real proof of this.
