All right to kick AFK:ers?

Recommended Posts

I am not a server operator, but I am very curious since I've read that kicking people (e.g. AFK) to make room for others is not acceptable. WHY?

Personally, I do actually sometimes play on a server, and then disconnect to the briefing screen, and stay there for hours, coming back in, let's say ca 3 hours later. Should I be kicked? Yes. Do I want to be kicked? It doesn't matter; if the administrator makes the choice to kick me to free up a slot, then I'm OK with that.

Why do I AFK in the briefing screen? Because it reserves me a slot, and I escape the hell of server browsing which takes me around 2-5 min every time, ofc...

I can't be the only one AFK:ing in the briefing screen? Just asking this to clarify this illogically solved issue...

Sure, I agree that kicking non-AFK players is wrong, but what about AFK players?

If you can tell exactly how long the player has been in the lobby in one sitting, we might have a discussion.

Otherwise; No.

How can you set up an idle kick? I'd be curious for my server.

It's not allowed officially but I sincerely doubt you'll get blacklisted for kicking AFK-players. There's so many server admins out there breaking rules in far more severe ways, and this is minor and imo should even be allowed.

As the poster above pointed out, BEC can be set up to kick AFK players in the lobby after a set time. I wouldn't worry about this being "against the rules" as long as you use BEC and not only when you need to make room for someone you know. We do this on US38 to make sure that we only have active players on the server. Before using BEC we would have 3-5 people idling in the lobby at a time, which to me isn't a great way to foster an active community on your server.
