New Zombies/Infected

Recommended Posts

Some new zombie suggestions;

Southern Zeds: The normal zombies as they are now, they only run slightly faster than players (not at this superspeed that launches them off cliffs.). They only spawn south.

Northern Zeds: These zombies run superfast, hit harder and have a greater chance to make they're target bleed. They only spawn north.

Horde: a horde of 10-20 slow walking zombies, when aggro'd they will come towards you but not as fast as the regular walkers. (35% of that or higher)

Wanderer: A lonely zombie that spawns in the forest. his skin is covered with moss and plants etc. so he is camouflaged. When he is aggro'd he will not try to run towards you but will go prone using his camouflage to conceal himself. He will wait for you to come near enough so he can charge you or when you pass by he will stand up and stalk you in crouch mode.

Nightcrawler: Only like 10-20 of these spawn in one single night per server, they are naked zombies with a pitch black skin. Instead of moving slowly around they run through the forests and open places. When they see a player they will like the wanderer go prone if they (the players) are looking in their direction. The nightcrawler will then attempt to sneak up on the player and attack him.

Infestor: Like normal zombies only with a big belly full of filthy whatever. Besides vomiting once in a while leaving a pile of infective goo they can also use their vomit as an attack to instantly infect players. (This also regards an idea that you have a chance to get infected by a normal zombie, which will turn you into a zombie overtime if you do not find medicine)

Mutant: A three meter high mutation of five zombies, they will take alot of bullets before they go down due to their bodymass. They are alot easier to take down by using explosives. When aggro'd they will come towards you with the same speed as a horde. When they are aggro'd amongst a group of zombies they can choose to devour one of them to regain some of their health. Note that these spawn more frequently in northern locations and high-tier loot locations, and there will only spawn one of them at a time. They are something like a high-tier boss.

No. No offense, but special infected are stupid for this mod. It is meant to be realistic, and not some weird mutated special monster zombies.

I agree, however I'd like to see runner zombies as well as walkers, with a 30/70 ratio. [30 being runners]

Hey, man. No need to get so defensive. The game is meant to be as realistic as a zombie apocalypse can be. I think you knew what I meant, and you are just being combative at this point, so there's no point in arguing about it.

Some good thoughts on the Northern, southern and horde.

After that, it kind of spirals into a L4D/Killing floor scenario, which rocket had stated he's not working towards.

The first 3 are believable, and are more suitable to DayZ. I'd even go so far as to say the ARMY/Military zed's should be given the northern zed's features. It'll make people re-evaluate raiding heli crash sites and airfields instead of just running in without a care in the world.

Southern would be good for those players who spawn without weapons so they won't get bogged down.

Hordes would be good in high populated towns, Cherno/Elektro, with a mix of some southern zed's in the mix.

he's right though. Don't use the term realism in a zombie apocalypse...it's not realistic.

Rocket mentioned that the word gets thrown about...instead use "Authentic"

It's not that i don't like criticism on my suggestion but you shouldn't use realism as an argument in anything regarding zombies. I understand that the human part of this mod is realistic with food and hunger and all but how can zombie possibly be realistic. Zombies/infected are total fiction.

The main point of the wanderer and nightcrawler btw is to keep players paranoid, that what this game did to me at first and still does a little bit but they will make it much scarier especially at night. Btw it might actually be another idea to make wanderers turn into nightcrawlers at night and turn back into wanderers at day.

And don't think suggestions like this would turn DayZ into left 4 dead, that game had 500 zombies cramped up in a map 50 times smaller than that of dayz and it would take a horde of 20+ zombies to take you down effectively. If this mod retains the realism aspect of the humans then things like this could work out, or i at least hope i inspired someone to make them more varied in appereance/abilities.

I'd just like to point out that I fucked my last comment up. I meant to say "I think you know what I meant", and not "I think I know what I meant". Also, I do think things like zombies that spawn and move in hordes would be cool to see, and I do think some zombies should spawn in the wilderness, but zombies that puke infection and zombies that are amalgamations ruin the immersion for me.

Well, rocket reffered to the zombies/infected as an apex predator right? So you don't know where you are and what the hell is going on or for how long the world has been infected, it's quite (fictionally =p) possible for predators like these to evolve/mutate into things like these. Either way i may agree that the infestor and mutant might be a bit too much but i think the rest is fine. Wouldn't it be fucking scary knowing that a pitch-black thing might be stalking you in the night?

Oh cool, does the infestor have fungal growth and neural parasite? Can it spawn infested terrans? Can it move while burrowed? Dont play SC2? Look up "infestor" on the SC2 website >.>

Rocket explicitly said there will be no special zombies.

As realistic huh? What makes you think zombies can't mutate to special abilities? Mutation can cause alot and im sure most of these can be mutated in real life IF zombies were possible. It's called evolving like humans did.

I have to agree with pretty much everyone here. It would be AWESOME to have multiple types of zombies, as long as you don't start implementing crazy zombie evolutions which aren't possible given the timeframe. Hordes, northern/southern are good ideas, as well as the police/military zombies being stronger or faster or whatever.

It's unreasonable to have an "infestor" type; a zombie apocolypse is likely brought on by an airborne virus, which means that you, as a survivor, are likely immune to it. Getting puked on shouldn't do anything except possibly make you puke from disgust.

Keep the creativity going though; I'm sure there are different "types" of zombies that aren't too far-fetched and would work well.

a like idea of different type of zombies, but lets not get into mutations and other shit. region bound zombies seem also a bit dumb, you know, migration etc., but why not make zombie types dependent on possible shapes of human body?

for example:

1 thin zombie - speed high. hp - low. damage low.

2 tough zombie - speed - medium. hp medium. damage - high

3 fat zombie - speed low. hp - high.damage - low-high. fat ppl can have some muscles

4 sportsman zombie - speed high. hp - medium. damage - high.

+ add variable behavior, and we have solid bestiary.

note. hp represent quantity body shots, that zombie cant take before death

Oh yea, because Zombies in general are "Realistic" at all, right

As realistic huh? What makes you think zombies can't mutate to special abilities? Mutation can cause alot and im sure most of these can be mutated in real life IF zombies were possible. It's called evolving like humans did.

Well, first I'm going to start by saying, the guy below has the most important point. The only reason I didn't mention it is because I thought it was common knowledge. Obviously I was wrong.

Rocket explicitly said there will be no special zombies.

Now, as for both of you making the point that "realistic" doesn't work here, then fine. Be pricks about it, but both you know damn well what I meant. I will do what the other guys said and use the word "authentic" from now on. There are different types of zombie invasion, and, in this type, there are no special infected. End of story. This is a commonly accepted theory that there are different types of zombie invasions. The walker-esque, shambling, creatures that have very basic motor functions and the need to feed, are commonly accepted as the most "authentic".

As for this idea that zombie can magically mutate in like a day, no. Yes, viruses and stuff have been known to mutate extremely fast, but that is because they are just simple things. Single celled organisms do everything extra fast. Large, multicellular creatures take a VERY long time to evolve or even mutate. Evolution on this scale takes million of years, so don't give me that crap. Mutation, as per the common idea that things can randomly grow new parts, is not a thing. At all. Extreme mutations on this scale happen in humans sometimes, sure, but they happen while the baby is still in the womb, growing, and because, for some reason, the DNA got f'd up. Nature does this to see if different mutations work. If, for some one in a million reason, the mutation is actually better, it will thrive and start to take over, but slowly. On a large scale, this is evolution. So now that I've explained to you what evolution is, do understand why what you said about them "evolving" sounds ridiculously stupid.

Corpses don't evolve. And mutation isn't necessary the same deal as evolving. If we would be talking about actual evolution of the infected individuals, I must tell you that any significant evolution takes thousands of years to evolve. And as if the infected could consume canned beans and reproduce with each other for a thousand years.

But what comes to the ideas, I would love to see walking zeds too.

Wait what, rocket himself said that the infected are not dead/undead. They are infected, but the infection itself is a mutation, because they don't behave like normal humans anymore. So you can assume the mutation process is very fast because appareantly almost everyone is a zombie. So why should the infected not mutate further overtime?

What is so unrealistic with an infection that alter a persons behaviour? There are such things you know, just not this extreme.

That part of my post applies to what you are suggesting.
