How do you know you are playing on a server with hive setup.

That isn't all the helpful since you can log in to servers that don't have access to the official HIVE.

Look for servers that are named Location (mod version/beta version) [difficulty][time zone] dayzmod.com - <who ever is hosting it>

eg.

NZ 15 (v1.7.2.3/94945 [VETERAN][uTC+8] dayzmod.com - Histed by ON3 Network

That is the required server name for official DayZ servers so all should follow that format.

Other than that if a server isn't on the hive then once you join none of your progress with saved for when you join other servers and will only be saved on that server.

It's hard to tell, unless you already have a character that's alive.

If you logged off somewhere, and changed to a different server later on, only to find yourself at the shore or the character selection screen, you're not playing on a Hive server.

If you appeared where you logged off, or somewhere close, you're on a Hive server.

There's a difference between a server having "a" hive and being linked to the official hive. Private hives are hives too.

It does suck that there isn't a better way to pick out private servers from official ones, though.

Based on them only have a few posts I can only assume they don't understand how the hive works and that people can have private hives for unofficial servers.
