Yes, you can give yourself beans. You were able to like your own posts in the not-so-old forum layout of earlier today, too (which is basically what the beans function was reskinned from). If people see you doing it though, they're going to go to your profile and one-star your ass for being the guy who's actually fake (and insecure) enough to abuse and devalue the system like that for some imaginary numbers on an internet forum.

The like function is a way for everyone to know that other people stand behind what you said. Doing it to yourself removes any trace of purpose from the action; it's baseless self-gratification over trivialities, at that point.

Perhaps, but the bug was being pointed out in a humorous, if rather flippant, way. There's plenty of other forum software that doesn't allow you to "like" your own posts (or give karma, etc).
