Underground Player Created Bases

Recommended Posts

I have heard Rocket talk about this concept and implementing it at some point in a couple of interviews and I am having a hard time seeing how this fits in with DayZ.

As I see it, this is a hardcore survival sim. It can take hours to just find one can of food let alone a weapon and ammo. From what I can gather from said interviews, its only going to get harder when environmental conditions are fully implemented.

I just don't see how the concept of underground player created bunkers jives with this game. It strains the credibility of this game being a Sim in my opinion. You would need excavators, and steel, and yards upon yards of concrete, and on and on, all in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. In a game when finding a tent feels like winning the lottery this makes no sense. And what is going to restrict literally thousands of players creating these things all over the place?

I suspect that it is far easier to implement this underground concept then it is to do something similar above ground because the drag it would create on performance and I suspect a host of other issues but is it worth it? I don't know, I get the feeling that I am misunderstanding what Rocket has been saying.

What are your thoughts?

To dig a hole you need a shovel and some time. I'd like to see how it's implemented before I rubbish it.

For all we know they're talking about digging a hole in the ground and putting a bag in it.

e: have some beans.

Not to call you a newb, but I find weapons fairly quickly. Do you know where to look?

If the whole 'underground base' is player made, so you build up resources then create a underground base, then I totally agree with you. However if their already in the server and treated like a heli crash [random spawning with special loot and one per server etc] then you could argue that they were built before the Zombie Apocalypse as a defensive measure, then I can agree with Rocket.

But hey, time will tell.

Yeah I have to agree. I would like to see it implemented and test it, but it doesn't feel like construction really fits within the DayZ universe. It seems like to much of a contrast between the survival and scavenging on the surface to underground cities.

If you have listened to Rockets recent interviews you would know he is not talking about a whole in the ground to stuff a bag. We are talking expandable underground bunkers. He was even talking about how players could possibly create security and alarm devices for entrances. I am not making this shit up lol.

As far as finding weapons, yes I know where to look and normally do not have much trouble. That is why I said "it can" not that it always does. I was mostly referring to the difficulty in finding food and drink sometimes.

Yeah, when Rocket started talking about hacking into people's underground bunker security, I gritted my teeth a little

People like you irritate me. "Hours to find a can of food"

Are you kidding me? How bad can you be?

Because you have always been a master of this game. How do you know he didn't just start playing?

Doesn't matter how experienced you are. It doesn't take you several hours to find a can of food.

Hello there

Underground environments atm don't exist in A2's version of the engine, but they do exist in VBS2 which uses *esentially* the Arma1 engine, both of which are powered by the RV engine.

So, theoretically it seems having physical underground bunkers for DAYZ is possible. I just hope they implement a better movement system as has been modded for A2 as indoor movement in the vanilla game is poor to say the least.
