nrvswreck 0 Posted July 15, 2012 Ok, so I just bought Arma2 package on Steam just to try DAYZ out. Awesome game! But, I find that at the starting of the game, you have no weapons. Going prone to evade zombies thoughout the town is just dumb. Zombies for some reason can spot me from a mile away if I stand up by accident or to climb over a fence. Then, being a dead zombie with rotten flesh or no flesh at all, seem to keep pace with me when I run away. It seems that at the very beginning, if you get spotted by a zombie, there is just no point in playing. You can't outrun them and they never stop running. I find myself just dying, and I will just let myself die until I get a decent Respawn. Damn, I can't even punch a zombie to protect myself. Need more basic Melee weapons like a branch that can hit 10 times or something... Anything really! Damn, give me the ability to at least use my fist to knock down a zombie so I can at least run away! b.v.nieuwburg@gmail.com 5 Posted July 15, 2012 It's a dumb dead zombie. Outrunning it won't work, running away and trying to get out of it's line of sight does. It will lose you and check out your last position. So run behind a bush or around a corner, go prone and roll out of the way. If I ever encounter a zombie in real life (like my wife on her period) I woudn't want to punch it or attack it with a stick. Run away out of sight until they lose aggro works better.

azrael72 28 Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) I totally understand your frustration nrvswreck. When I spawn I always look for the little concrete shed-type out buildings. For instance if I spawn on the cherno coast I beeline for the cranes on the docks. Zs won't go on those docks (I keep to the coast side of the tracks). There are a couple of sheds along there that tend to spawn hatchets. I can generally sprint to them pick up the hatchet, if it's there, and get back across without getting hit, or at least, taking minimal damage.Between Otmel and Elektro there is a large grey metal warehouse ( the kind with the catwalk) and I've had pretty good luck finding a hatchet in the upper room, sometimes on the bottom floor. It may take some belly crawling to get in there, but at least it has 2 entrances you can use to slow/lose the chasers.Unfortunately some places just flat out suck to spawn in. For me, a Kamenka spawn usually means I die fast. Kamenka's like a curse on me or something!Sometimes when I keep dying minutes after spawning I just get so frustrated that I start making stupid moves and stop being careful. At this point I make myself take a break for a bit and go back in when I've calmed down.Once you've learned the map and useful building locations... well I won't say it gets easier, but you will have a better idea what you need to do once you find out where you've spawned. Good Luck! Edited July 15, 2012 by Azrael72
