{Op4}Mcface 0 Posted April 26, 2012 The g17 is better in a lot of later game situations. The flashlight is a massive help, and the 17 round mag is nice too.If you are being chased by 4 or 5 zombies, you dont have much room for error with the revolver as you only get six shots. with the larger g17 mag you can pretty much fire as much as you want, and 2-3 torso or 1 head shot isn't that bad. even if you put 3 rounds into each zombie, you are still left over with more ammo than the revolver before you have to reload. sgtsnug 26 Posted April 26, 2012 I definitely agree. After playing for a good while i was pumped to find a g17 and then was suddenly disappointed when i need to squeeze off 2-3 rounds to kill a single zombie.true it takes more shots to make a kill, but you get a torch, and 17 round mag, 2 shots a zombie it's still more efficient then a revolver, and if headshots it has more potential, and has smaller aggro range I assume. Mugen (DayZ) 72 Posted April 27, 2012 True that flashlight is good but the mags for the thing are pretty scarce,Personally i stick with my trusty 1911 whenever i find it.
grounddog 12 Posted April 27, 2012 the rarity of spesific guns and ammo is way too harsh and whenever i go looking for loot I find myself always getting slugs for a winchester rather than for my guns. And when I found the G17 I was really happy that I found another gun. But after the first zombie I found out that pistol sucks balls. The only gun worthy of having is the .45 revolverRevolver should be really rare, the Beretta should be as stated the beginning weapon. Also considering winchester is such a great weapon the ammo should be way way more scarce and maybe more M1014 bullets.
b00ce 5 Posted April 27, 2012 Why not a Makarov PM as a starting pistol? Low magazine capacity and it's a "Pussy 9mm". It also fits into the eastern bloc theme.
Freyar 8 Posted April 27, 2012 Should new players be limited to a poorer sidearm? You do have better equipped people going after targets along the coast. Something strong-ish is a good counter.
tajin 17 Posted April 27, 2012 Hmm, I'll have to disagree there. While the revolver is really good against against zeds, against other players a semiautomatic is more useful.

That said, I honestly haven't had that much practice anyway.
bodycount 83 Posted April 27, 2012 1911 is awesome but mags are pretty scarce. I try and stock 1911 mags in my bag whenever I find them but the pistols themselves seem to be hit or miss.
oktyabr 53 Posted April 27, 2012 I had the G17 for awhile thinking the larger capacity might be a good trade off. When I realized it was taking more hits to drop a zed I switched back to the revolver! Semi auto with a larger clip might be a good suppression weapon against groups of players but when it comes down to dropping something, zombie or a single player, I think the .45 is best. drakenof 9 Posted April 27, 2012 Makarov is now the first weapon. And it's great, hopefully other suggestions will be added soon.
bacon55 (DayZ) 2 Posted April 28, 2012 I sure hope the ammo is easier to find. I didn't see it in the changelog, and I've seen very little ammo for that gun.
rocket 16567 Posted April 28, 2012 There should have been no ammo previously. Now there should be a reasonable amount in residential buildings.

oktyabr 53 Posted April 29, 2012 Are there any plans to make ammo more caliber specific rather than weapon specific? Example: .45 cal for revolver or 1911? 12 gauge shells for all shotguns?
b00ce 5 Posted April 29, 2012 Are there any plans to make ammo more caliber specific rather than weapon specific? Example: .45 cal for revolver or 1911? 12 gauge shells for all shotguns? It's an ArmA 2 thing. The magazines are fixed, even though they have the same bullets/shells.What I want to see is having ammo boxes of 100 or so (That take 1 or 2 slots depending on round count and caliber) and having to fill magazines that you keep when empty/find. For shotguns, maybe there could be a script that auto-detects what kind of shotgun and gives you the proper magazine for it. This would also work both ways, so you could take a magazine and strip all the rounds out. The system would allow for a random amount of ammo to spawn in, instead of picking up full magazines all of the time. The only problem I can see is people farming ammo because magazines refill on re-connect.Though, this would require a bit (read 'a metric fuck ton') of scripting and I don't know if its even possible. nexerius 0 Posted April 29, 2012 Now now guys. Don't think about whats so epic and not. Im pretty sure the revolver is pretty common IRL. Also, arent those winchester pretty common too?You have to think of whats common or not...:)
pendelum5 0 Posted April 29, 2012 Considering this area is Russian, I think that the Makarov is a more appropriate starting pistol. If survivors started out with a larger capacity 9mm pistol, there would be no reason at all to use the Makarov.
