How does character reset work?

my character has randomly been reset, id post this as a bug but i see alot of youtubers mentioning player resets.

so how does this work, my char has only existed for afew days irl and not even survived a full day ingame yet?

It can happen - mine was "reset" earlier today. However, once I hit respawn (to die, and start anew) it returned me to my previous character properly.

This should only be done if you're thrown into a new character without being told you were dead, and without being given the option to select male/female.

ah ok well i ended up just starting over since it is fun to start over but next time ill attempt what you did. thanks :)
