Unable to join any servers for a week now

Ok, so it's been about a week since I was able to join any servers. I was able to play just fine in 1.5.7 and earlier versions until I was shot in the back and killed in 1.5.7 by someone during an intense standoff with a friend against 40+ zombies in Novy Sobor.

The mod is installed correctly, I've ran mods in Arma often enough to know if that was the issue, but I've tried reinstalling the files just to verify anyway.

I have tried the majority of the servers, all of them with low enough ping to join at least. I have waited for half an hour or more, quit and rejoined the same server waited more several times, moved on and tried the same thing on another server with the same results; trying servers with low numbers of players online, servers with many players online, etc. I have restarted the PC and done the whole process over again. I have attempted this at various times throughout the day, each day, with no change in results.

Occasionally after waiting a half hour or more of "waiting for server response" I spawn in the debug forest, with no HUD and no sound whatsoever beyond voice chat (and no the volume settings are not turned down. Other game types work fine HUD and sound-wise).

Sometimes after spawning in the debug forest if I hit esc>respawn I will respawn in the debug forest again and I will have my old inventory and I can move, BUT I still have no HUD and no sound beyond voice chat, I can venture into towns, search them top to bottom I will see not 1 single item, and not 1 single zombie. Not even a tin can or old corpse. No other players either but that one in particular could be chance. I traveled all of the southern coast with this same result in each town, farm, and village, from Pavlovo south to Komarovo, and from there east to Elektro.

Also if I respawn in debug forest and am able to move, usable items such as soda, food or flares in my inventory do not come up as options to use in scroll menu or via pressing F. I can however change guns and shoot the gun I have ammo for, even use the flashlight on the Remington 870. Beyond the occasional immobile person in the debug forest or stray rabbit there is nothing to shoot anyway.

I emailed the Dev team via the "contact the team" about my issues and methods I've tried to resolve them with and and was told simply "try to play at another time or another server - this may solve the problem by itself". I think that after using the process of elimination and trying as many servers I could at various times day and night each day for a week that this is quite clearly not the case. The only thing that makes sense to me at this point is my character data in the database is corrupted somehow or I am simply being blocked.

This being the funnest game ever it's driving my nuts not being able to play and team up with friends. I've exhausted every possible fix I could think of and every possible fix I've read about, such as the method of reverting to 1.5.6, joining, respawning, then re-upgrading to 1.5.7. all to no avail.

i've stuck to the following rules so far and they've worked a dream for me:

1. reinstall battleye for AO

2. dont wait for a server response for more than a few minutes. if a server is taking a long time to respond, dont keep trying the same one

3. try a different server

not a definite fix, but works for me

I will try method 1 once steam redownloads AO (it was the only other thing I could think to try). Although other games on other dedicated servers such as ones running Domination have not given me a single issue related to battleeye. Hopefully that will be a fix, I really hope...

Not to diss your other suggestions, but 2 is more of a non-method than anything. Waiting too long won't reduce the chances of joining a particular server. It will either work or it wont, the extra time is irrelevant.

As for 3, if you've read this post at all, you would see I have. I've tried damn near all of them. No less than 15 servers each day, upwards of 30 some of those days. Setting it to join one, walking away to do things and coming back a half hour or so later to either no change or debug forest.

Ok, so now I've tried reinstalling AO and BattleEye and it has not really changed anything. I still spawn in debug forest if I wait a very long time. Apparently I am able to move as soon as I spawn there now, without hitting esc>respawn, besides that no significant changes.

These few in particular are interesting as it appears there was a locked version of myself (minus the custom face) with the exact same inventory as I had which I shot and killed. I expected it to kill me but it didn't. Although I grabbed some of the shotty ammo and put it in my inventory out of habit.

I really wish a dev or even moderator would look into this. There is a serious issue with my character data, and I can't even get acknowledgement of the fact that it is an issue. I'm trying to be patient, but being ignored really sucks. I think I've documented the issue clearly enough to show it's going to take more than just "trying to rejoin". If I could fix the problem myself I would, but I can't.

Those things are a fact of life with this mod, currently.

Wait 5 minutes or so, then try another server.

You will never be playing when you spawn in the debug forest. Essentially, you are not on ANY server at that point. You are in useless Limbo. Abort, and Retry, or Fail.

I'm sure in your own way you're trying to be helpful, but did you even bother to read this thread? Like the part where I have tried every server? You're suggesting I try what I have already tried countless times, tell me do you really think something that has been tried countless times and failed every day for a week is going to work? A zero percent success rate of connecting out of easily over a hundred attempts would warrant a bigger issue.

It shouldn't be difficult to see that the issue a very small number of other players and myself are experiencing is different from what the majority of players are experiencing in terms of connectivity issues when it is so clearly documented.

I'm having the same issue.

I've been having this exact same problem for a week now, too.

I emailed the devs about it yesterday, and got a response asking for my player name, my unique player ID, and a copy of my Arma2OA RPT file. I sent those in yesterday, but I haven't gotten a response back yet. I'm hoping someone is looking into it, even if they haven't emailed me back saying that they are. It would be nice to get a status update on my request, though.

I have a feeling it has to do with character data linked to your unique player ID being corrupted or something.

I guess that's something I may have forgot to mention, I was asked to provide those as well via email. I emailed them the RPT and player ID, player name and never got a reply back to that particular email.

Data corruption makes the most sense, I'm not sure why someone couldn't just have a look and see if that is the case. I would myself were it possible.

We get an email every two minutes, it is quite possible the email has been overlooked. I know this will piss you off, but the only real solution is to resend it. There was no anticipation that the mod would be this successful so there was no plan in place to cope with this much email. We're trying to deal with that now but it takes time.

If you resend the email, I will keep an eye out for it and let you know. 1.5.8 has some additional components in it to deal with data corruption.

Not getting a response email yet doesn't really bother me, either; I know you guys are busy and get ton of email, so I know to be patient with stuff like that. Just a confirmation that there is progress being made somewhere is really all I was looking for; which you pretty much gave here.

I'll try re-sending the email again. It'll have my fourm username (which is also my player name) as part of the title/subject. The full title/subject will be: "Shylan Character Data & RPT".

I've contented myself with passing the time by learning how use the editor and camera scripting to make Arma II machinima, at least until the problem is resolved. I have a feeling it's going to take a while, and learning that stuff should keep me sufficiently occupied until then, I'm guessing.

Ya there's plenty of other things to do, but not a day goes by where a friend asks if I want to join them in DayZ. Sure I WANT to, but I can't...

If you need something to record video and have an Nvidia card check out MSI afterburner. It captures really good quality video, don't know if it works on ATI cards though.
