AK74 vs AKM

I'll apologize in advance if this is a recreated thread, I didn't see any other posts comparing the 2.

Ok so I primarily play with one other person who isn't on as much as I am, so when he's offline I'll do solo runs into towns for supplies. I've had this AK74 for a few days now (5 clips) and its impressed me immensely, but I came across an AKM in a fire station which I have on my pack now (5 clips as well). Now the selfish bastard I am wants to keep the better one and give my friend the other lol. Which would you choose?

Akm is louder but more powerful. I believe also a bit more recoil. I tend to like the ak74 better.

Sooo nothing. It shoots, among other things, STANAG mags. It has the same audible range as an M16 in that mode.

There's a bunch of stuff built out of "decompiled" game code out there, that doesn't mean they can't contradict each other or have been put together wrong.

When you say an AKM is 1 shot 1 kill, is that in regards to players as well?

AKM is better for everything in my experience with both weapons, if your dragging zombies out of the way to shoot them already you'll save ammo and the noise is a non issue then, good for killing players as well but i put 2-3 shots into a survivor to be safe regardless.

Very few weapons will score one shot kills with the desync being what it is, but the AKM will still get the job done in less time.

AKM every time, lower firing rate than the 74, therefor you ain't got to worry about it muzzle climbing like a mad man, you can still control it in short bursts really well, more powerful too.

(Used both, both in DayZ and on the Shooting range 1.1 mission, I find the AKM alot better), and of course, it has zeroing, although you won't really need it, make sure you zero for 100 metres.

I think I'm justified in calling into question the validity of a list that is altered from known data because the creator doesn't understand the link between ammo and noise and "thinks some of those are probably typos"

DayZDB is a valid and reputable source of information for Day Z. That chart is another matter.

I like the AK74 better as I don't do a lot of long range fighting, but the AK74 is closer to the rifle/sniper rifle gradient than the faster Ak74 variant. The AKM has let me down before, but that was probably due to lag or some other bullshit, while the 74 has served me well time and time again. Although neither beats my delicious M4a3 CCO...

AK-74 is garbage. An M4 is better. The AKM is one of the best in the game. I have killed players at around 450-500 meters no problem with the AKM. People will over look it but in my experience its just a monster.

As far as the AK-74 goes, I hate it. It does low damage and only has a red dot sight. where the M4/M16 can have scopes and M203

AKM, 3 rounds and a dead player. Although the AK74 trades ammo between all of it's varients, which might be better if ammunition is an issue.

But the AKM has great range (semi-auto) and excellent damage, with 1-hit per zombie. The AK74 takes 2 for a zombie, and a lot more for players. But it is easily found ammo.

My money is on the AKM for power, AK74 for easy-to-find ammo.

(Do the math, you spend less ammunition per target with the AKM, so 3 AKM magazines is like 5 AK74 5.45 mags)

The AK74 is a heap of shit. It's got the crap power of an M16 with none of the accuracy or silencer / grenade launcher / acog gadgetry.I would say, the worst assault rifle available. Especially for PvP.

Take the AKM, one of the best PvP non sniper weapons, you should be using your primary for nothing but PvP and your 2ndry for zombie clean up even if you don't ever intend murdering people.
