Are Helicopters going to be added again?

Recommended Posts

I think this may have been answered before but I used the forum search feature and google and could not find anything about it. So, does anyone know if Rocket plans to add the repairable helicopters again? I think it was a cool feature and a great goal for higher level players to work towards.

Might want to rephrase "higher level" players. Just sounds wrong to me, for Day Z.

But, anywho, Rocket has alluded to helicopters just being too taxing on performance as it stands... with the assumption being, he's working on it. I certainly don't believe that helicopters are off the table, or will be out of the game entirely.

IMO whilst helicopters have all seeing radar, they are better out of the game. If this can be disabled then I'd be all for them.

I'm sure as servers become more and more stable and optimized it will be able to handle the load. He stated (rocket) that the Arma engine is built to take 150-200 people, so it's clearly CAPABLE of handling loads far greater then what we're working with now - its only a question of optimization.

200 people on the same map... HELL NO

Agreed, until the map gets bigger... 100 should be the absolute ceiling.

Helicopter are out until an ARMA beta patch fixes the lag that they cause.

IMO Helicopters should stay out. They don't fit the feel of the game. You are supposed to be running around scrounging to live, not zooming around in a flying death machine immune to zombies and much safer from player reprisal than you should be (I didn't say immune, just much safer). If the chopper didnt have a side door gun then my opinion would change some, but still not a whole lot.

Hello there

FYI There are many civilian light planes and helos available in Arma2's units. Would be better if they were in.

I dissagree Orlok. Flying vehicles, and any vehicle with a mounted weapon on it just take you out of this game. I am certain they are perfectly valid for ARMA 2, but DayZ is a different animal all together.

If you are flying above the map, then you are removed from the zombies. You are removed from most other players. You are removed from what makes DayZ different from ARMA2. Yes civilian vehicles with no guns on them would be better than military vehicles with guns, but not by a whole lot because they still remove you from the world.

It is just my opinion, but if you want to fly then play ARMA2. If you want to kill zombies with jets and missles, and all of the gadgetry of ARM2, there are mods for that also. Come to DayZ for something different.

He said civilian, which means no guns, purely transport. Add in the MH-6J and remove the UH-1H, the little bird can transport 6 people, and is very susceptable to enemy fire, it's the perfect fit. It fills the role of transportation that the Heli was supposed to fill, but it doesn't have 2 death machines on it. To get a kill with it you either have to kamikaze or drop off grounbd troops.

Please re-read my statement. I know what he said and what he meant, and addressed it.

walking in cherno yesterday i heard a helico noise far away , so i begin to look for an helico in the sky then suddently find it , first time i see that i shot at him with an ak ... Surprisingly he begins to come closer to me and then land

lol nice i stop attack and join him at the gunner position, i tell that to my buddy on vocal he tells me he is balotta airfield and a guy at the top ow the tower is trying to kill him, so i ask the pilot to go there to escape my friend, He heads towards there as sson as we there no enemy in sight i still shoot the tower for the fun of it, then my buddy comes out of a hangar and we land to get him , we made a good ride and reached kamenka where we were going to get a 4th passengers so we land and the guy outside just kill me with his axe lol while im at the gunner side of helico ... that was it for my trip ...

But are you telling it was a hacker or what ??

Flying vehicles does not take you out of the game. What do they run on? The raw joy of its crew? Nope. Fuel. Fuel which can be made more rare and require a greater effort of scrounging and scavenging for a group to be able to use them.

Don't look at everything in this game from a solo survivor standpoint. The endgame should be groups working to use stuff like this. More flying vehicles please.

I'm glad you acknowledge that it's your opinion because to me this seems like a completely silly and arbitrary distinction to make.

Every vehicle in the game takes me away from the zombies - none of them can be out run.

Likewise most players are powerless to stop me - really only fear the SAW and AS50/M107.

And what can you possibly have against mounted weapons? Again, seems like such an arbitrary distinction to make...

Personally, I would absolutely love to roll up on a town full of zombies and unsuspecting survivors with one of these, call me crazy:

Remove the Huey and add in the Mi17 civilian chopper. It's big and slow with no means of defense. Perfect for DayZ.

Someone mentioned vehicles with mounted guns shouldn't be in the game, I disagree. I would like to see UAZ's and HMMV's with 5.45 and 5.56 machine guns mounted. Not too powerful to OSK everything, but far better than scrounging around with Winchesters and Enfields.

Doesn't the helicopter just end up allowing only a few individuals completely own the island? That doesn't seem very fair to me.

If there were some anti-air guidance systems for launchers and whatnot, maybe it'd be a more viable in-game vehicle in terms of fairness - but honestly, how many times do the survivors scrounging around in ANY zombie apocalypse where they have NOTHING, EVER lead to them simply swooping back and forth over everybody's heads in a chopper?

In ANY good zombie movie or game, you don't get the helicopter until the end - where it won't even matter because everything's over anyway.

And that's my two cents! ^_^

50 Cals actually can destroy them pretty easily. Theyre by no means invulnerable to other players.

I saw three choppers in elektro yesterday on US 52 at the same time. Legit?

Pics or it didn't happen?

My boy actually got video. I'll get it up when I get home. One was being piloted by a guy named 800d, who we just killed an hour earlier and stole his jeep. Go to us 52 if you want to see choppers hang out in elektro.
