Sounds good but it might be a little hard to be implemented.

Not really, they have a day cycle that mirrors real life, just have the weather cycle do the same. Would be interesting because for 3 months people would need to horde cold winter equipment and gear, then the next 3 months anti-rain stuff, then hot weather stuff. Maybe make the winter time if you stay too cold it effects your aim like pain, and you have to heat up your water sometimes if you let your body (and thus your water) get too cold. Then in summer if you get too hot your food starts to decay and you tire faster. Could have different camo available for the season, and people could try to find and store the neccesary equipment for the upcoming season in tents or vehicles to prepare for the next season.

If things like cleanliness or scavaging for plants was ever implemented, that could have some interesting tweaks depending on season as well.

Thanks for posting this thread, I was actually thinking about this earlier today, then when I went to the forums I forgot what I wanted to post about!

this sounds like you have no idea... the implementation of different seasons would mean to extend the game engine with more textures (snow), particle effects, reflections, dynamic textures for more or less snow on the ground and much more things I dont know about because I am not an expert in computer graphics. but even with my minor knowledge i can imagine that something like implementing seasons which blend well with the existing engine would mean to code half of the game anew.

It's more of a suggestion (as are many on this board) for far post-alpha, or even standalone using Arma III or another engine. In which case suggestions like this are entirely possible, though requiring much more work, they would also add even more realistic depth to the DayZ experience.

To do this in the arma 2 engine I think they would have to do it in a weather patch every 3 months to change it. I dont think it would automatically change itself every 3 months. Also to get snow on the ground they would have to retexture the map and trees to add snow which would make for some giant patches because the retextured map would be a whole new map file.

That isnt to say I dont like the idea though!! I think playing in the winter would be awesome. People would be trading assault riffles to get heat packs after a while (not really, heat packs are pretty common).

You can have dynamic snow storms but unless you switch the map, yes the MAP you won't have it piling up like IRL, actually it won't pile up because it already has to be in the finished state. You'd have to switch them if you change seasons, too. And it takes a lot of work to change literally everything on the map.

Yep, once the snow is added to every texture required and the map is remade it will make the mod alot larger of a download aswell. There might already be a winter version of Chernarus already available to the community somewhere on Armaholic.com but then the dev's might need permissions to use it for this mod and such. Then they have to change everything in the mission file that refers to the map name to the new map name.
