Gamebreaker.tv - Jul 2012 - Interview with Rocket

Recommended Posts

"Gee, I really wish there was a game like this."

--Rocket--

Tonight while playing some DayZ I was watching an interview with Rocket on gamebreaker in the Background and he said this towards the end and I have to say that he was 100% correct.

I had played Arma II beta and free before but never for very long. After watching a youtube playthrough of DayZ for 15 minutes I had purchased Arma II:CO and then after install downloaded the mod DayZ. It is as great a game that I have been wanting and waiting for. I think this mod is one of the best games out in at least a year and can't wait to see what Rocket and the DayZ team have planned for the future.

The games in Alpha and already great, from what Rocket says in the interview I think he is going in a great direction and hope he does do some idea gathering.

Keep up the good work Rocket and don't listen to the Critics!

It amazes me the amount of sarcasm, cynicism and negativity on these boards. Thanks for a post confirming my opinions, and I'm sure the opinions of a lot of other people.

This game rocks, no matter what bugs or glitches or whatever are keeping it from being perfect... it's still a whole hell of a lot better than anything else I've got to play.

Damn right. Thanks for also confirming my opinions as well!

I like the part where he wants to make us dig our own bases. Epic

I think the appeal of an open sandbox environment like this is what most Zombie FPS games have ignored.

Ducking into buildings, the lack of resources and easy weapons, the option of goign wherever, and avoiding a town altogether and other great features really draw players in.

A refreshing change from the linear, guns in every corner, Left 4 Dead type FPS approach.

I can't wait to see the Chernarus really come alive with a rich, fully interactive environment in the future.

Thanks to Rocket and the DayZ team and the (mostly) helpful player base.

I've had a fun couple of days so far.

-Old engine wich will remain at least till 2013 (Arma3), think about how much time they are spending to fix some basic bugs... now think about how much time they will spend to transfer the whole mod into a new game. Im not saying they are doing a bad work, im saying they are too few devs for a big size project like this.

-Hackers..

*Nuking servers

*Watching cars/tents/players vehicles

*Polymorphing DayZ streamers on chickens then killing them just for fun

*Spawning weapons, illegal vehicles, etc

-Tons of issues with character movements, servers not saving data when supposed to do, and loooooooong etc.

You will enjoy this till your mind says STOP.

A game like this claims for dedication of the user who is playing it, you can spend so much hours on doing so many things and there are SO MANY FACTORS that will probably ruin all your work. This wont work, not if BI doesnt claims the mod and works on it as an expansion of Arma3.

Of course this wont work on Arma2 since BI doesnt give a fuck anymore on this while they work on Arma3, and as you can immagine the mod devs cant work on an antihack system, they just can ban the hackers they spot. (Wich of course wont be enough)

Just a tip to anyone that minds about getting Arma2 just for DayZ, if you liked youtube videos, go for it, you will have fun but assume this game is totally glitched/bugged/hacked and its not even near of being fixed, dont buy it if you wanna play this in a seriously way, just get it for having some random fun.

This was a good interview thanks for sharing.

From the way it sounds DayZ is going to be kinda like Eve Online. If so you have a guaranteed customer with me! Oh man, player battles for underground bunkers and their posessions all the while having to worrry about Zombies is going to rock!

I do think that a schedule for the end of this year is a little too premature. As a whole department creation and hiring of needed staff will probably take up the rest of the year. Then getting your ideas together for what you want to accomplish then implementing them will take up another good chunk of time. I'd say near the end of the next year would be a more realistic target to shoot for. But it would be worth the wait!

You sir, are retarded. Like nerkus said this is an alpha, and since aparently you DID NOT watch the interviews or from whatit seems research at all...There may be plans to port to Arma3 (which Rocket is working on apparently) and this game will expand so much it will be a hit.

Have fun being a "negative nancy".
