Is there any way to boost FPS??

Recommended Posts

Here's my specs: Intel Core i5 @2.30GHz

6 gigs of ram

Nvidia GeForce 525m

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Cant really get over 20 FPS no matter what I do. If I could get to at least 30 or 40 I would be satisfied.

Not sure what your current settings in game are, but make sure u have

Vsync enabled.

viewdistance not over 2000.

anti alliansing disabled

video memory at default (This makes sure he uses the max of the card)

post process effects disabled.

and 3d resolution at 100%

the rest of the graphics is mainly what u prefer.

I run everything at very high, except shadow, objects and HDR cause they do not really make much of a diffrence in how nice it looks. but they do grant u a extra 4-7 fps.

with this setup on 3 years old pc i run at 60 fps. very smooth.

Also u will notice your mouse handling increases by alott.

omfg... dude I put everything you listed and I cant get over 21 FPS and it looks like a Playstation 2 game... I'm about to get real pissed cause I wasted 24 bucks on a game I should be able to run.. I don't see why I wouldn't be able to?!? I mean, all the other games I've played have never done this. And I mean like Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 and Saints Row 3 and the whole 9 yards! This fucking sucks!

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -winxp -nosplash -skipintro "-cpucount=4" "-exthreads=7" "-mod=expansion\beta;expansion\beta\expansion;@DayZ

I think this was the command to run your game, when u have 2 cpu's on your nvidia card. u can still update the game with six updater, and use this command to run your game, then browse servers in the ingame browser.

Mind u this only works on the retail game, not for steam, the steam location is somewhere else offcourse.

Anti-Aliasing is probably the biggest FPS-Whore. You can always try playing in a lower resolution windowed (like I have to), or you could change launch parameters to increase FPS, such as designating the amount of cores and threads your CPU has, or the maximum and minimum memory the game can use.

Alright I used this video but I'm stuck at the part where he changes the target. For one, when I right click the arma2oa.exe (the beta exe) and try to change the target, there isn't even a target line. so I decided to use the steam one instead (it looks like this as of now: 6d40334fbdbd8d230b59134360c8543b.png?134 ). But I don't know what to change it to. I have the @DayZ folder in my virtual hard drive too. Help??

That ramdisk tutorial is worthless. To notice any benefit you'd need to copy ArmA 2 files to it, not just DayZ.

those specs sound like laptop specs. you probably have areally slow hard drive, also 2.3 ghz for a cpu is very slow for gaming. also, you might wanna look up actual playstation 2 games before complaining about arma 2 graphics.

Hmm ok so is there any thing I can do at all?? Or do I just play a game that looks like it was made 7-8 years ago on 20 fps? Cause if so, I'll just accept defeat and uninstall it and say fuck it. Never should have wasted that money D:

Any idea on how I would actually do this for steam??

You can't really notice low FPS unless you are consciously looking for it. Play the game with the best settings you can and eventually you will forget that it's running on a low FPS. This is because our brain is magical and can 'fill in the blanks' when it needs too.

The guide I used to do this is no longer avaible since they updated the forums i'm afriad. I didn't actually watch the video tbh I assumed if someone went to the bother of putting it up, it would have detailed easy followed instruction. sry if it didn't. Maybe the person who posted the original thread will repost their guide here in the new forums. Also you don't need to install the whole arma 2 folder, you get a good 10fps min boost just using the @Dayz folder in my experience, though i've also gone a step further and i'm using another gig and a half of the ram disc for my system pagefile too..

You're right, FPS doesn't really matter on this game, but, the fact that it looks just absolutely horrid is what gets to me. If it looked nice or decent, and ran on 20 FPS, I'd be happy, but it doesn't...

Could you respond with your specs please? Because either I did something horribly wrong with the ram disk, or my PC really can't do it no matter what. Here is a pic of my PC specs vs. the Arma II requirements: 659b8d8e8472ea1ef85b48e17f70a4cf.png?134

As you can see, I meet them. Also, you said you are using ramdisk, so are you on steam or standalone?

well my PC is quite old now with a new GFX card, as you can see in the pic I posted my gpu usage is only 25% - I feel this could be a driver issue that nvidia need to fix..

watercooled Q9550 @ 3.8Ghz

8GB 1800Mhz ram

GTX680..

I have the standalone edition of ARMA2 but ARMA2 OA I bought through steam.. I used the DayZbeta launcher which is installed in the operation arrowhead folder which is in your steam common aps folder. I then used notepad++ to edit this file to direct it to launch from the @dayz folder in the ram drive instead of the one in the steam folder by simple editing the line

call "%_ARMA2OAPATH%\Expansion\beta\ARMA2OA.exe" "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;expansion;expansion\beta;expansion\beta\expansion;@DayZ;"

to

call "%_ARMA2OAPATH%\Expansion\beta\ARMA2OA.exe" "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;expansion;expansion\beta;expansion\beta\expansion;G:\@DayZ;"

this works fine for me..

edit - it just so happens that my ram disk was assigned "G" so change it to what ever letter windows has assigned to your Ramdrive..

Ok I'm pretty sure I see what you're saying here. But how do I open the beta launcher with this "notepad++"?
