8GB ram required now?

Recommended Posts

So I rented a dedicated server, with the specs(4GB ram) that I thought was better than the required specs(2GB). Submit the server request, wait a few days, get denied because the specs changed to 8GB ram! So if I have my server upgraded to 8GB, which will cost me more money, will the required specs change to 16GB?

Also I have to assume it got rejected due to ram size because there was no specific reason stated only "does not meet required specs"

Thirdly, the specifications. Below is a rough list of requirements to have a comfortable 50 player server.

* Quad Core CPU @ 3Ghz+ (CPU is the main enforcer in a ArmA server, so the more powerful the better)

* 2GB+ Ram (Ram isn't a big issue in an ArmA server, so don't be overly concerned with having copious amounts [16GB+] of it as it won't be required)

* 50GB+ HDD (Preferably SATA3 or SSD) (ArmA 2 CO and the DayZ Mod take up approx. 20GB)

* Bandwidth at least 2TB a month. (As stated earlier, at least 2TB is required)

http://dayzmod.com/f...r-read-in-here/

I'm sure this part said 4GB when I submitted the request. and it also says "RAM isn't a big issue in an ArmA server"

  • CPU: Modern Quad Core @ 2.0Ghz+ (CPU is the main bottleneck for an ArmA server, so the more powerful the better)
  • RAM: 8GB (RAM isn't a big issue in an ArmA server, so don't be overly concerned with having copious amounts)
  • Storage: 50GB+ HDD - 500 IOPS minimum. SSD or 15k RPM SAS is recommended.
  • Network: 100Mbps+ dedicated. Bandwidth cap must be at least 2TB or more.
  • Slots: All servers must be running at 40+ slots, or 30+ in areas where bandwidth is expensive and where permitted. (Usually reserved for developing countries or remote regions)
  • Operating System: Windows 2003, 2008, 2008 R2

Update: My server has been upgraded from 4 to 8GB ram, took less than 20 minutes. New server request submitted and back to waiting.

Bloody hell, there is no need for 8gig of ram too run one instance of Dayz server! That is extreme overkill, I doubt you will ever reach 1/3 of that!

There is no need for 8 gigs... I'm running 3 dayz servers and a TS3 off one box and it's only pulling 4.5 gigs of ram at max.

What kind of a CPU usage did you guys see with your servers? And what are the specs?

3GHz+ seems WAY too much.

It was due to ram, after I resubmitted with 8GB it was approved. Nothing else changed!

Then it seems like the admin that handled your request has no idea about hosting ArmA2 servers. The requirements from the support portal are gibberish. My server never used more than 2GB RAM, and that after 16 hour uptime.

According to some of the stats I've seen there are hosting providers running at least 4 instances of DayZ on the same machine, so requiring that much for one dedicated server is a little bit extreme. I think the DayZ staff is really padding the necessary hardware.

Look at this for instance: http://arma2.swec.se/server/data/261782

A bit off topic.. but may I ask where you got your dedicated server from? Looking into getting one myself rather then renting a gameserver.

I wanted to get a server close to me and my friends in kansas and the current kansas servers are either not updating or the admins restart the server to "reacquire" stuff that we take from their tents(best guess here all i know is we find good stuff in tents take it and put it in our truck and then a little later a server reboot and the stuff we take is magically back in their tents). Long statement short we use datashack in kansas city, mo. so far they've been great

Hmmm I wonder if they will go back and make people upgrade or discontinue their access to Dayz?!?

I host US 132 on a dedicated server from http://www.ubiquityhosting.com/. It wont be cheap, but it wont break the bank either.

My Server Specs:

Windows 2008 Server

1x Intel Xeon E3-1230 - 4 x 3.20 GHz

4GB RAM

1 TB SATA-II 3.0 Gb/s

100 Mbps Uplink Port

10,000 GB a Month Metered

Going onto HFB's statistics page, out of 332 servers online, they are using 327.04gb of ram averaging at 0.985060241gb (0.985gb) per server.

Like I said, though. Never seen a single server go use over 2gb.
