Great Crouton 0 Posted April 27, 2012 ....so when I was told of this game on another forum I was strongly cautioned not to be a noob and was presented with a guide of do's and don'ts. In particular, don't be the noob the runs down the middle of the road with a lit flare. So finally after reading about the game for the 2 days it was'nt working right I did lots of reading. Finally! The day arrives that I can jump in. It's night time and I have the whole survival guide in the back of my mind when I spawn. Stay low, be quiet, don't use light unless you must, don't open fire on every zombie you see. So I work my way inland a ways and come across some homes that I want to look around. As I'm quietly circling the perimeter "clomp, clomp, clomp!!" Turn around to see some dood springting down the middle of the road with a lit flare!"Ha ha, NOOB!" I'm thinking to myself, proud of the fact that I have not made that kind of mistake. My laughter turned to horror as the guy stops, looks at me and comes running over to me and crouches down beside me along with his "look at me! shoot me!" flare. I didn't even have time to type "dood, you're gonna get us killed" when BOOM!! Buddy drops dead. Great....I take off sprinting across the road to vanish into....whatever...I had no idea. BOOM!! I go down. Laying there broken and waiting for the guy to come finish me off. Tick tick tick, nothing, no one comes. So I figure I'd try my health kit. Hey, that makes me stand up! BOOM!! Dead......So I get noob killed due to someone else being a noob. HARSH!!
Guest Suffocation Posted April 27, 2012 Thats the fun of it... You have to think of yourself first, I have multiple times helped people yet when I feel they will compromise me I will tell them we will go our separate ways, Its all about the survival of yourself, if you can get protection or help others live then thats great but if your life is at risk then move on. Rumiac 0 Posted April 27, 2012 Honestly. If you see someone doing that, you're better off just shooting them yourself. Then put the flare out and get the hell away. Flare newbs are a serious risk to anyone around them.
Freyar 8 Posted April 28, 2012 I shoot ANYONE running at me. No exceptions.

blackbeard06 16 Posted April 28, 2012 lol I'll need to update the guide with one of my own noobish mistakes...
Korathias 20 Posted April 29, 2012 I normally get the flare noobs by sneaking near them and firing a round and then sneaking off and watch the horde get them.
kzrts 3 Posted April 29, 2012 People run around with Flares for a reason and you must not forgot it. At night, you can't see 2cm above your nose, you can't even see your own feets. I would feel lame calling noob someone with a flare, when you spawn you just don't really have a choice. Especially when next to town. Throwing them away to light up your path is a nice way of doing so aswell, but in cities, when you just hopped in for the first time ? Come on...
apcyberax (DayZ) 0 Posted April 29, 2012 Use a flare to check the direction of the water. Turn away facing land. and throw the flare away and run for 5 minutes. then throw another and keep making. If you know your running nothing seeing is not that importent for the first 5 minutes better to get inland
tremanarch 42 Posted June 11, 2012 yeah and dont throw that falres too close to your position :)

Maca (DayZ) 769 Posted June 11, 2012 It happens every player, thats the funny thing about it. I can remember first time playing at night went prone and didnt move for about 10 mins, then i see a flare and started heading for it "sounds crazy but didnt want to be in the dark on my own" next thing i see is a survivor running straight at me with about 20+ Zs on him, take aim and help him drop all the Zs. We stop and start chatting in side-chat then as were getting on gun shoots ring out........ Moral of the story make sure you stay in the shadows when flares are lit or put them out. :P
