Hostile Act timer [Hinder the friggin dcing...]

Recommended Posts

Ok, ok. Two times last night... Did hostile players DC on me.

The first, tried to shot me with his M107 at NWAF.. He missed... alot.... I started running towards him... He was about 2-300 meters away. My M4A3 CCO, wasn't that stable because of my heavy breathing so I couldn't hit him.

I kept running after him until he thought he was safe and when I was about to pop his juices.... He DCed... I waited for him for 30 minutes... No relog...

The second one, killed a friend of mine near a heli crash...

I tried to kill him with a nade, it landed too far from him to kill or wound him. But it landed close enough to knock him out. I saw his body fall to the ground. He stole my friends Coyote(Backpack), so I wanted to stop him... needless to say, the passed out body... sunk into the friggin ground. Alt + F4.... Seriously.

It wasn't even 5 minutes after he killed my friend...

Is there a way, that anti Alt + F4 could be implemented? And is there a way to have a 5 minute Agression timer...? Or something timed, so when you log of... You stay where you logged of for 5 minutes or an X amount of time, after you have shot your weapon at a player within 1km. Shorter if it was just a zed.

We need some solutions, anyone want to share some insights?

Well, EVE online has a 15 minute anti-log timer. Once you commit an aggressive act against another player there is 15 minutes before your character will log. You can log out but your character will still be there for 15 minutes after the act.

Difference is, DayZ is an FPS.

Question is: How to get this to effect said player if he shoots and misses, realizes he's about to die then Alt+F4's?

Make the aggresor won't be able to log his body off for 10 minutes. 10 seconds log off timer for non-player aggresor, like shooting at zombies.

I'm playing E-O too but 15 minutes would be a bit too long for fps games. :)

This would be annoying to implement as identifying a shot as hostile will be a bitch. How would you determine if a shot was hostile? What if you are playing by yourself and a random survivor is within 1km when you shoot a zombie? What if you are in a group? They are definitely going to be within 1km at all times probably. Will nobody be able to disconnect cleanly? From a programming point of view I don't think there is an easy way to find out what an aggressive action is.

I know there were plans to implement a system where you would not be able to pick up loot for 15 minutes after logging back in, but that is addressing a different issue.

Could a players gear be made to drop to the ground (like spawned loot) if they died or blacked out? Then they could DC, wouldn't matter. If they didn't DC and came to from blacking out, just pickup the bag and carry on. Any bleed over time damage would have a timer, then progress to the drop mechanic should they die or black out. I don't even know if this would be possible to create, just a concept.

what the game needs is like a 10 second logout timer. this way anyone trying to escape is rendered useless for 10 seconds. Plenty of time to smash there brains in.

This seems to be a great problem with the game nowadays.

I think we should just come up with a way to fix it "for now" until better options become available.

Hell, even games like WoW have a 30 second log-out timer unless you are in safe areas. What if we make it so you have to interact with something (fireplace, tent, car, whatever) to log instantaneously? If you don't, your character remains in place for an X amount of time. Or we could just go all the way and make it so it always take times to log off. Or leave it as it is now and figure out another way of circumventing this problem.

What are the developer's takes on this btw? I read somewhere that he knew how to stop the server-hopping, but this is a bit different.

well after having hackers on my clans server i have realized the bigger problem at the moment is the hackers. Alt+f4'ing is the only viable means to surving the "OMG everyone on the map has been teleported to a killzone" crap.

Soooo....I hope they fix the hackers first before they fix the alt+f4'ing. This way we can at least survive a hacker attack.

Totally agree. It will suck if you can't instant dc in an unfair fight (enemy's using hacks).

Live on low populated servers if you are worried about your gear. :)
