Suggestion: Way to allow trading

Recommended Posts

One of the biggest issues I see is the fact that there is no reason to not shoot first and ask questions later. Its a real bummer because it turns the game into a FPS instead of an immersion experience.

The is no reason to try and chat up another player at all when you can kill them and get all the gear they have on them. My suggestion would be using something like lock boxes for letters/packages with a key the player finds.

The easiest way I can think to explain it is this:

Once a player finds a key for a lock box (as to how and where the key would be found I would say in the lock of a mail box set for an apartment or a lockbox in a bank. Think of people rushing to get their belongings from banks as an infection outbreak occurs) They can then store items in the lock box and use it as a secure trade point. If you give me such and such I will give you a key and after I get the item from you I will let you know the location in which that key works.

Something along those lines (needs major tweaking) but that way killing a player doesn't mean you get whatever he/she was going to trade you. You actually have to talk to them and form an uneasy truce. It would also mean players could operate trading hubs as a sort of middle man holding both keys and storing items for a trade. Once both parties agree they go to the middle man and get the key they want then go off to get the item they traded for.

I would love to see this happen as it would possibly cut down on shoot first and ask questions later. The person you shot today might be the person you want to trade with tomorrow but he won't talk to you so there is no way to get the item you want.

I apologize for how scatter brained this comes off it just popped into my head and I wanted to throw it out there before I forgot about it.

TLDR:

Players get keys to lockboxes that only they know the location of. Then they trade keys with another player and tell each other where the box is so the trade can be completed. It would still allow for bandits to lie and cheat but the face to face aspect would mean that the bandits name would be known and thus other players might find out and not fall for it. It would also mean killing a player that wants to trade wouldn't mean you could just pick the item up off of them.

Trading already exists in the game, and there is already a large group of people who dedicate their time to making sure it happens safely for both sides.

Most encounters for me have been passive 'can you give me a bloodbag' or 'i'm unarmed!'.
