Arma coming to Mac?

I've never really gamed on the computer before, but seeing the DayZ mod really made me want to start. I have a MacBook Pro right now without Windows installed. I was wondering if anybody knew if the Arma games are ever going to be released for Mac in the Steam store. I realize that's a stupid question, but I figured it be worth a shot asking anybody before I bought an expensive PC or bought Windows and installed it on my Mac. If anybody had any recommendations or could point me in the direction of what to do that'd be appreciated. Thanks.

I think if you run a search here in the forum you will find a few threads about getting it running, I don't know how playable it is though.

You can likely run Arma on your mac, but you need to install windows.

Not to be a jerk, but if you really want to get into PC gaming get a PC. It will make your life much easier.

Every game forum I belong to has a Mac thread once in a while. Face it buddy, Macs are underpowered, overpriced and not suited at all to PC gaming. You can get a perfectly servicable PC that will play all new games in 1920*1080 with high settings for around $1200 these days. Not top of the line, but it will get the job done.

Actually for 1200 that would be a high end gaming rig

my 4 year old, $850 rig can play this on all very high settings at at least 60 fps ... but thats because I got to choose my parts.

Basically if you want Arma 2 or other games to work what you need to do is sell your mac to someone else who is willing to pay through their nose for an under powered machine, then build your own custom PC for half the price your mac was... then what... enjoy your worthwhile PC and saving money.

I have a AMD 965, AMD 6850 as one of my PCs and that was around £500 to build (if I don't include the SSDs) that runs Arma 2 quite well although the graphics need to be on around medium.

My other build which is a 3570K, 7970 lightning and some other stuff runs everything maxed out and costed around £1,200. As the price goes up your performance gains get smaller until you're paying £100s merely for an extra 1fps.

Not sure about the desktops, but for the notebooks, you'd have to go at least to the 2k version to play Arma 2 at playable frame rates.

Do yourself a favor and get a PC.

Sorry, but like everyone else already says... Macs and games just don't mix.

I consider high end to be the uber geeks who drop $3000+ on their rigs, buying brand new graphics cards that they don't need at launch, top flight 50 button mice, $400 headphones (just dropped $120 on some virtual 7.1s.... love em :D) that sort of thing. $1200 is mid-tier, lets you play at HD res with good textures at 30-50 fps most games. Good enough for 95% of us, but there are always people who think they need to run games at 60fps and higher, though I think the human eye can't distinguish past a certain level.

*I should clarify, I have a nice gaming laptop, an equivalent desktop would be around $800-1000 I guess.*

The DayZ official forums community once again misses the point by a couple parsecs.

Can you give more specifications on your MBP? There isn't a version of Arma 2 for mac (and hell the PC version is held together by duct tape and happy thoughts) but with decent specs you might be able to bootcamp, dual boot with Win7, and run Arma 2 and therefore DayZ. No promises here.

Those people aren't uber geeks, they're dumb people or computer illiterates who think they know things. You can get an amazing rig for around $1000, plus top of the line peripherals and a decent monitor (maybe even two) should only amount up to $2500

I run DayZ on a 2 year old+ MacBook Pro. Installed Windows 7 with Bootcamp - you´ll find installation walk throughs one YouTube. Works ok, but from time to time it´s lagging. Are getting the newest Macbook Pro with the flash disk through my work this fall so I´ll try to run it on that one to see if it´s get any better. If not, I´ll buy my first PC. Yep, this game is that good.

edit: especially on the good lootingspots I get problems with the graphic, as the military camps. I thought this was an issue with me running Windows on a Mac, but I´ce just found out that this is also a problem for PC gamers
