Zombies are overpowered since patch 1.7.2 (Video as proof)

Recommended Posts

Whatever AI behaviour rocket decides to go for, this is my only concern;

A players needs to be able to somehow see a connection between what he does and what his situation is with the Z'ds. Otherwise you only get a stream of random awkward situations that you can do nothing about. This limitation on a players ability to influence his fate based on his choices, is not something that I feel suits DayZ.

An example: Z'ds might have massive aggro range based on variables players can't control or check. The obvious solution in this scenario is to kill them. But then, the Z'ds respawn rate might also be really high and impossible to calculate. What do you do now? Has it become a DayZ premise that you have to be part of a larger gang to do anything anywhere with loot?

OMG, dude, you are so badass! I hope they make the Zombies a hell of a lot stronger and faster, just because it's al too easy for people so awesome as you!

On Topic:

I really ACTUALLY thought this was just a bug untill I stumbled upon this forum and learned why the devs/dev made the zombies superhumans, instead of groce, infected people with only 20% of their brain remaining.

It's because there are so many amazing super gamers who are so damn awesome that the dev was forced to make the Zombies into amazingly evolved beings, (people would only love to be), so it wouldn't be to easy for them.

I get why the developer did this, this is what we want from every developer, listening to the people who play the game.

But this just isn't normal anymore and even playable for the casual gamer if you ask me. I thought thats why there are servers with different difficulties.

Not even to forget the definition of a zombie is; poeple whom not live nor are dead, have only a bit of the capabilities of the brain left and don't feel pain which offcourse makes them stronger.

And because of the brain mostly not working shouldn't be that terrific in distinguishing one picture and sound from the other.

Exactly what one of the posters said, it's hardly about sneaking anymore, it's more sprinting to a point, disconnecting because of al the zombies, and reconnecting again.

That not even being the worst part, but shooting other survivors will mostly get you killed because at least a few zombies will aggro you taking even more zombies with them, leaving you in a situation where you better run off or sadly disconnect.

Another thing what I found a problem was that zombies actually could detect you when you were for example; in a city, sitting behind the other side of the building, making no sound and not be seen, for a straight 20~30 seconds.

That being said, I love the game, except of the "bug", these awesome overkill pro gamers hoped and got in the game.

At 0:32 isn't that another player under the tree with a rifle aiming in the direction of the Zombie?

Are you sure, he hasn't shot with a silencer at the Z?

And I am not sure this wasn't your friend with a silenced sniper rifle who did help you, to set the "prove video" up....

Quoted for fucking truth.

The so-called "Zombies" in DayZ are just half-assed super-humans with a Zombie skin with 2 speeds, slow and staggering, or Usain Bolts twin brother, if Zombies were actually implemented properly, and maybe a freakin' lot more of them it'd be a better challenge, all the devs have to do is take a leaf out of Dead Rising and BAM, perfect Zombie survival! With actual ZOMBIES!

But... oh well.... ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA AND SO ON AND SO FORTH!

You were standing in front of him in a clear line of sight. He was faced towards you. So why isn't it logical he would see you? Besides, you were running which maxes out the Sight and Sound meter on the right, so... everything seems legit.

TECHNICALLY, Zombies are blind. So sight in general should be removed.

Although that would mean a huge increase in hearing. Also it would mean that zombies would need a whole new AI. As if they already don't...

No one from the dev team ever stated they are zombies nor called them like that. They say they are "Infected" which is something else, similar as a zombie, but again different. The players started to call them zombies and so it spread among us. But they are not, zombies. That explains everything, and no need for further discussion on this point.

Additional info for the guys thinking those infected are zombies.

The Z in the name DayZ doesn't stand for ZOMBIE, as 95% of the players think. It stands for ZERO, as in Day Zero, the day the disease started. The new beginning. Got that?

I don't think this is really a problem. I've had a lot of luck just sticking to other objects and trying to approach towns/villages from better angles.

Plus you hadn't just spawned in.

He most likely meant that he had just logged in, which is also spawning in

Zombies, overpowered? 1 shot to the head from any gun takes care of them...

I have absolutely no issue with them whatsoever, people just need to stop crying.

If you can see them, they can see you so why the hell would you expect to be safe? They are infected (not zombies...INFECTED with a disease)...they can still see and infected move around and sound much differently than survivors so it should be easy for an infected to distinguish between a fellow infected and a survivor. Do you have problems identifying a survivor from an infected? So why should an infected just go about their business if it sees someone poking around and not moving around like his buddies? Of course he's going to run after you...fresh meat.

If it was infected it would be iDay.

I will grant you that that far *might* be an unintended bug, but....

You saw him and determined he was not an uninfected, just fine, so why can he not? Your detection bar was nearly maxed out. You were in full daylight, cutting an excellent silhouette against the sky from the city. You were moving *exactly* the way uninfected move, and nothing like the way infected move, with a rifle in your hands and a player doing something funny near you.

I think it would be very cool, if, just like in the movies & tv & books, going anywhere near a city or town would mean one of two things: Hordes of zombies spotted, cornered & killed you or you were able to display some really amazing skills to survive and scavenge.

This would be the most appropriate version in my perfect Zombie/Infected world. A city should equal death to all of us, but the really good or the really well-supported.

I don't like the AI where the Z's are a comfortable distraction that can only kill me when I stack the odds in their favor or they surprise me by teleporting through a wall.

edit: My very brief experience with Arma's actual game's AI was much like this Infected. It was hard and scary good. They often saw me first. Smart, and certainly NOT catering to/comforting the average, lowest common denominator of player.

Really? Where did you read that? :S

But 'infected' also means degrading, blighted, sick, tainted

How then, may I ask, does this give them INCREASED abilities than that of a perfectly normal human being?

It seems to me that they don't want to share the exact nature or type of infection so they don't have to justify them having ridiculous speed and bone-shattering strength.

I think the infected would be better if they ran as fast as a survivor did, its sort of dumb that they run like Olympic sprinters

well if you think in a scientific way zombies don't feel (pain, feelings). So they don't get tired. This game was made to be realistic. I believe this is great. Zombies would run fast and wouldn't stop if you blew its arms off. So don't hate. It just makes it better.

You are horribly wrong. It means Day Zero. The day the virus infected everyone. A new start in history. That's why DayZero. Learn your shit before countering my post.

You are wrong. Where does it say that INFECTED have those attributes? It all depends on the type of virus they get infected with. Take for example the Resident Evil infected ones. They could run and had uber human strenght, some mutated to even stronger monsters etc.

Infected can mean anything. If someone is infected he can either be weak or gain strength depending on the type of virus. At least it is like that in games and movies. So your argument fails.

I want to add a few things. I am new to dayz(within last month). A RL friend brouht me in and we have another friend hosting a server. He updated to 1.7.2, and we currently play a vertran server, I beleive this refers to overall toughness(again still new). The server admin also stated that he has "kicked up" the zambambos to make them a bit stronger(harder hitting mainly I believe). With all of that being said. Yes the Zombies are really annoying. They do seem to aggro at the slightest notion of a players presence. With that also being said my friend and I( just the two of us )found 4 vehicles with standard spawn rates and were able to make a raid on an airfield last night. Yes the Zambos are more difficult but so far it's mainly only sight range than anything else. I can work with that. i feel that it is a bit crazy, though not overpowered. Just my two cents of a new player apparenlty playing on a difficult server.

The problem isn't the distance it saw you, the problem I have is Zombies aren't fun to fight. There are games that make them fun and you want more zombies, sadly however zombies move too fast and erratically and they animate so poorly that it appears they're hitting you out of nowhere.

They need to make Zombies smooth and slower in Stand alone and just put more in.

Right now zombies are bad.. Running like Usain bolt twin brother (i lol at this joke) and zigzaging making them hard to hit + the fact they see you form an other town.

But remember it a mod and it a bit normal that we get some fuck up zombies. The dev team try some stuff and sometime it doesnt work.

Think that all the experience they get form DayZ mod is going to help the standalone game

They are overpowerd but if you could see the zombie then the zombie should see you if his head is pointing in you're direction so its logical!

they are slightly OP. Zombies are such in a state of decay that their sights should be less. They should only be able to see a few meters out given the player is crouched. I noticed this. some zombies will aggro from large distances and some won't.
