Hunting knife as weapon

Hello dear Dayz players,

I find it irritating with the start of the game. First I spawn, then I move to a town to look for supplies, but when a zombie spots me you don't have any defence and need to run up hill or trough houses to lose them. That can be quite hard sometimes.

My idea is to make the hunting knife a low damage weapon. And it would be even better to get it in the start.

A real low damage weapon, but more chance to survive in the begin.

I hope my ideas will be appreciated :P

I don't think you should get it in the start... Because then all you need to get your own food is a hatchet (piss easy to find) and matches... And obviously the animal.

But I agree it should be a weapon... That would be cool.

i'm not sure i agree with getting one on spawn, purely because it makes it easier to be equipped for killing animals right from the start. but i agree with the premise for sure.

yeah this is logical, its frustrating having a knife and still being defenseless

though i prefer spawning without weapons

I'd say the damage should be comparable to an M9 SD handgun or a Makarov PM BUT to give it some incentive for its use as a "bladed" weapon it should cause enemy players to bleed when struck with it instantly

Maybe when using side arms you could press F to switch to it quickly, so if your shooting down a zed but he gets to close, F, left click, dead and saved you a bullet or two.

I'm not even sure what you can kill with a hunting knife, short of dealing a finishing blow, not exactly sure what a few inches of steel can do to a running and screaming zombie.

I think you should have some way to defend yourself from the start, brass knuckles for all i care.

I find it a little bit retarded when i'm in a house and a zombie comes in i cant do anything other then let myself be hit or die, or run away. Let me throw a brick at him or something then

Quite good idea the bricks, or the empty vodka bottles which have no use, smash them and have a weapon to stab them, maybe like 5 hits per bottle?
