A few questions

Hey guys ,

its my first post, my name is Peter, I am 25 and I was convinced by some people of the realitymod community to play this mod.

I downloaded the game on wednesday and figured some things out by myself, like where to find guns, how to avoid zombies, at least in small villages etc. and now I really enjoy the game :=).

But I have still a few questions:

I have a makarov and a xm1024, i'd like to keep a hatchet as a weapon, is that even possible, while keeping the firearms with the backpack you have from the beginning, except using it only for wood chopping and not as weapon (filling up 10 slots in the backpack iirc) ?

How many slots do secondary weapons consume in the inventory ?

Is the xm1024 any good at decent ranges like 50-100 meters, with the slugs ?

"Some animals are easily killed with a single bullet" (http://dayzwiki.com/...p?title=Animals) - do they resist, attack or can get unusable after shooting the wrong gun like for example buckshot ammo with a shotgun ?

Do bigger backpacks spawn totally randomly, or are there certain places ?

Most servers have a ping of "9999" can I play on them?

Servers have different version numbers, what does that mean to me, can my progress be continued on all of them ?

What is the difference between recruit servers, regulars, and experts - are zombies tougher, or is that just meant to be a guideline for player skills ?

How do I exit a game properly, currently I am minimizing and closing the window in the task bar, because I dont know which button to select :) ?

those are alot of questions mate, but id like to head up and answer the "9999" ping question, yes you can play on them. do not mind those

- you can put hatchet on your tool belt and back into your hand with right-click

- secondary weapons take 4 slots iirc

- animals give the same amount of meat no matter the weapon (8 from a cow, 5 from a sheep, etc.)

- czech backpack and alice pack spawn in residential buildings (houses, supermarkets, offices), coyote backpack (largest one in game) spawns in military structures (ATC, hangars, barracks, etc)

- version numbers are for mod and beta.. mod version - you can only play on servers with the same dayz mod version as you have installed.. beta - used to be that you could play on servers with beta version same as your or older (beta patches were backwards compatible) - however this doesn't seem to be the case with the latest beta patch

- difficulty does not mean much.. it does not affect zombies.. it is related to settings such as 3rd person, cross-hair, etc., however, most of these settings can be changed in server options regardless of difficulty settings..

- to exit the game, press ESC - abort - disconnect - disconnect - cancel - exit

You can use the hatchet but you how it is currently you need to drop your main weapon or put it into your backpack if you have enough space.

It takes 10 slots and if you dont have enough room and still try the game might eat it. Not sure if that's been patched or not since I dont want to try lol

Secondary pistols take 5 slots I think, not 100% sure but pretty sure ;)

Currently animals don't attack back when you kill them but it might change later on.

You can find an ALICE pack pretty easy, and it is the second best. They spawn in random residential/civilian areas of the game.

For the ping, what do you use to launch the game? Six launcher shows 9999 for me but if I give it time it shows the correct ping.

Version numbers are just the current version of the mod, they all connect to the same HIVE (as long as they are official servers) and should keep all your gear when you update (I think?)

There is different versions atm because a patch only just came out a few days ago and broke a few things so some servers stayed on the older patch and some updated to the new one. There will be a new patch within the day for 1.7.2.2 to fix the issues that came from the last patch.

As for regular and such, i am not sure . . .

To quit just push Esc and then abort.

- When you grab an axe it will first go to your toolbelt, if you want to use it as a weapon you have to rightclick and select "remove from toolbelt". If you have room for it it'll be equiped on your primairy weapon slot. Once you want to put it back on your toolbelt so you can only chop wood with it, simply rightclick the axe again and put it back on your toolbelt.

- Secondairy weapon is 5 slots.

- Animals can be killed in any way a zombie can as far as I'm aware. Though I did notice if you aimn at the head they often don't die, just aim at the body.

- ALICE backpack is found randomly in any civilian buildings, The cayote and czech backpack spawn in military buildings.

- As Asasaint mentioned, you can play on them though they (for me at least) have a habbit of being a bit more laggy and having long loading times.

- Version numbers are supposed to tell you what version of DayZ a server is running, though it's not always correct. You'll likely get errors joining versions different from your own though I'm not 100% on how it works.

- Different diffeculty settings require certain options to be set on the server (think waypoints, nametags, etc), next to that awareness and taken damage seem to go up on higher diffeculty servers.

- Esc -> Abort -> Disconnect

I did see a post a week back about someone who was coding a launcher just for DayZ (unlike six launcher that works for a bunch of mods) but I don't know if it's out yet.

For six launcher it takes a minute or so for everything to update for me and show the correct pings.

Being from NZ makes it easy though since any server with a Kiwi/Aussie flag I can join.

Try giving Six Launcher a minute or so then list by ping and see if it displays the proper ping. Otherwise try in game and set the filter mission to dayz.

Guys can someone explain me how to place stuff from your inventory to your backpack directly ?

Sometimes i have the overview of the backpack with all the items and their icons, just like the inventory, and then i cant place anything in it except its on the ground, btw. i just lost my 20 slot backpack full of medical shit i got from cherno medical center, and now im lost in the middle of the map ...

Find something on the ground, click the pack in your inventory, click open bag, click the arrows on the left to move items into it. Do not randomly drop things on the ground as they randomly will vanish. Instead put things into a pile of gear that already exists.
