How to use a water pump?

Okay I searched water pump and "how to use a water pump?" with no joy.

So how exactly do I use water pumps?

I have an empty canteen. But no matter where I hover my pointer or scroll my mouse wheel I get no option to fill canteen etc.

Does it require parts to work? Or is it like Wire and the cursor is very difficult to highlight?

Right click water bottle and fill empty water bottle.

Can't remember since it's been ages since I used a pump, but have you tried right clicking on the canteen and seeing if it gives the fill bottle option?

you can fill your canteen in lakes and other water bodys, not worth going into cities for the water pumps.

You cannot fill your canteen on the beach though. Also don't accidentally swim when refilling your canteen in the ponds.

You don't have to be in the water at ponds to fill your canteen, standing at the edge will do it.

Yep, just takes way longer then filling them at a pump so be patient.

I must be a fatty, I almost never use a canteen. Have a pack half full of coke lol

Forget the water pumps. The ponds up north is the safest/easiest spot for refilling your canteen. Zombie free and so far sniper free in my playthrough anyways.
