How to use a rangefinder

I just found a rangefinder but I have no idea how to equip it. Its in a slot next to binoculars but I cant see a button in my controls to use it.

It's the same as nightvision (default: N). :D

No. It takes the spot of your binos. Default key is B. N will toggle the nightvision once you are looking through them.

For others who come searching the forum for this info: You must drop your binos (and optionally pick them up again) so that the rangefinder moves into the top left slot. It will then be activated by B.

Unfortunately this is the only way to switch between them.

The binos have a wider field of view which is useful sometimes, so it's annoying that they can't just be bound to different keys.
