How to start off?

Recommended Posts

I'm downloading ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead as I type this, so I will shortly be installing the Day Z mod. Any tips or pointers as to what I should do to start off?

Get and axe. Very common item. In your inventory right click remove from tool belt. Remeber to reload the axe because the axe needs....... Its mod ok no mele weapons in Arma so use as a very short range gun.

In real life, grab a box of kleenex, some asprin and possibly some alcohol/cigarettes.

Load into the game.

Attempt to survive.

You can watch as many videos as you want, but honestly, the only way you're going to learn is by dying. A lot. Between deaths, debrief. Learn from your mistakes-- you'll catch on.

I usually loot Elektro and Cherno until I find a Makarov or an M1911, then I head to Stary Sobor in an uninhabited server and find an AKM/AKS/MP5A5 for myself. I did it with my friend, and we mainly killed animals and ate their meat for food, and brought some soda with us. We now have automatic rifles in about 2 hours of playing. Also, you may want to loot a hospital before you go. Make sure to bring blood bags, morphine, and maybe an epi-pen for broken legs or knockouts.

Head straight for Cherno, Elektro or Berezino ... Loot as much as possible, Try to fine a larger backpack, Some matches, Hatchet & a hunting knife, Hopefully some kind of pistol, Also try to carry at least 3 - 4 water canisters, Carry one in your main inventory and the others in your backpack, Whenever you bump into a fresh water supply refill all canisters, Also i recommend at minimum 3 morphine shots(i currently have 5 in my Alice back pack)morphine fixes broken legs, Hopefully find a compass too.

As soon as you have the above head north(west if you in Berezino) ... You can now survive in the wilderness without the need for heading into any major city's & risk being killed by bandits, Any animal you see kill it, Gut it, Use your hatchet to chop wood & your matches to create a fireplace then cook the meat, Gut a large animal like a cow and you will get 8(i think)raw meat, Keep 1 - 2 in your main inventory and the rest in your backpack.

You should always carry at least 1 bandage, 1 morphine shot, 1 water canteen, 1 cooked meat & a box of pain killers in your main inventory, The rest may be ammo or whatever you wish.

These in my opinion are the very basics of survival.
