Fat-Marco 13 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) Hi guys, newbie hereI had a few questions regarding zombies that I couldnt find via search#1 = Do some zombies hear/see better than other's? It's as if the zombies in the military area's aggro you from very far.#2 = Is zombie aggro purely based on sound/vision levels? Eg if im 5 feet away from a zombie it will see me. But what if im 5 feet away but behind a wall?#3 = What the deal with the way zombies attack? They attack in such a hiccupy sporadic animation that it's hard not to get hit unless you shoot them from a distance.#4 = How does noise detection work? If you shoot a zombie in the middle of town, all the nearby zombies hear the gunshot because it is close. But what if ou snipe a zombie from the hills overlooking a town? Will the zombies from the town register the location of the shot? or are they too far away?Sometimes i'll be crawling and a zombie will charge me from soooooooooooooo far away and run straight towards me as if I have bacon on my head Edited July 12, 2012 by Fat-Marco
kims4@live.no 29 Posted July 12, 2012 #1 = Zombies hear and see at the same level : )#2 = Yes, that and if they walk directly on you. They shouldn't see you through walls anymore, not sure. Need some clarification on that. I think Rocket and his team tried to implement 50% less audibility through objects. #3 = Well, as Rocket said: "this is what happens when a designer makes the animation" hehe. #4 = Well, when you shoot. You can see the ear spike for a short second. Weapon audibility varies, you can perhaps shot a Zed with an M9 and not aggro those 50-100meter away, fire another weapon... liek teh Winchester, you might aggro those 100meters away.A nice redditer made this: http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/we3e9/weapon_information_chart/It contains all info about the weapons, range, audibility, damage etc.
Electrolyte 4 Posted July 12, 2012 I cannot answer these questions with any authority, but I'm pretty sure there is more to it than sound/vision when it comes to detection, namely smell. But this could just be me developing superstitions based on the randomness of the 1.7.2 AI, who knows. To answer the rest of your questions from my perspective, in the current version (1.7.2) you are much more likely to be seen by infected than heard. To avoid being seen, do not stand or crouch in front of them, especially the hoppers who seem to be better at spotting someone crouch-walking than the walkers (again subjective). Their attacks can be avoided if you practice enough, but there is no end all be all solution to dealing with infected under any circumstances. Expected the unexpected, and expect to die.
