How to deal with 1.7.2 zombies

Recommended Posts

Sleep by day. Move by night.

It should have been obvious, really. The 1.7.2. zombies have bad hearing, but good eyesight. So only go out to play at night. It's what you'd do if this was real.

I didn't clock it until I accidentally logged into an night-time server this morning and spent an hour wandering around small villages and sneaking in between converging zombies in search of beans for breakfast.

One time, I aggroed a couple of zombies when they heard me run across a road, but by the time they got to the road to investigate, I'd disappeared into the bushes like a delicious, meaty shadow, just out of their reach.

Another time I slowly approached an isolated barn and saw three monkey zombies crouched inside waiting for me. I took them out with slug rounds from 75m away and they never knew what hit them.

Night mode = easy mode. Time to become nocturnal.

Or find a server that isn't pitch black. Many servers seem to be perfectly playable on a moonlit night.

Except that... you know... You can't see anything at night.

*facepalm*

please

please

PLEASE!!!

Learn to play, stop being such a pussy. Next time it's night time, don't log off. Make sure to have a flashlight, chemlights and maybe a flare.

Travel from Cherno to NWAF.

Once you've done this all by yourself without NVG's, you could say that you've got the hang of it.

Once you've got the hang of it, you'll start to love the nighttime.

I'm european, but I play at american servers just for the darkness.

What i do is simply sprint around cherno/elektro looking for a gun/supplies, and run in to buildings now and then to get rid of some of them, hurr durr so realism. Theyve stuffed up with the zombie sensitivity, hearing/sight far too good, i was literally 100-200 metres away from a zed and he just started sprinting towards me, i was crouched in grass, so since then theres just no point in going prone/crouching, just run past them all and exploit the fact they cant run indoors. Its kind of ruined the whole sneak aspect of the game now since this seems to be the only viable way to get through the first parts of a new character.

so since then theres just no point in going prone/crouching

crouching is for shooting, prone is for sneaking. or rather, crouching is for bandits, prone is for zombies.

prone worked now and then, but they still picked me up, crouch walking was bearable to get around, theres no way im going to go prone all around elektro/cherno just to avoid zombies when sprinting then going into a building works just as well. Hopefully this is balanced out in the hotfix, i enjoyed sneaking around when you were actually able to sneak without it becoming too tedious, now its just not worth the time/effort when you can get the same results from exploiting the fact they cant run in buildings.

You just have to play around with the zombies both during the day and at night to get a feel for how much you can take the piss before they start sprinting towards you. While you do have to be much more careful during the day it is still possible to sneak in and croutch walk through town going prone when one gets a little too close.

Maybe I might just try this playstyle.. after all I have a civilian yellow flashlight and a military flashlight(which I never used before) on my toolbar/toolbelt. But I might want to find a G17 since having it's flashlight + a pistol means you get to defend yourself at direct contact.. because switching from my military flashlight to the 249 SAW may take seconds but every second counts when you're spotted :)

Thanks for the advice!

I find it easy to just sprint from bulding to building and from town to forest, and mostly they just stop following you at some point when they lose LOS or so I think it works?

Dunno man i shoot a gun then 2 minutes later the horde of zombies from the next town over finally make it to my position and attack me.

It has literally got to the point i shoot a zombie and scan the area think oh great all clear lets go, then suddenly another three have just appeared from god knows where !

Yeah really, just ignore them and run! And save your bullets for something more dangerous :)

The new detection radius for the zeds has completely destroyed my gameplay style. I played this game constantly prior to 1.7.2, but have little motivation to do so now.

Exactly, you either run like mad or use the MS crawl simulator 2.0 mode. Both work, but suck.

Yesterday I ran like mad, attracting all, from my spawn position into elektro, loose then I easily went around elektro in Crawl simulator mode at night with visual 3.

Before you carefully planned your course, now ... I dunno.. i think it sucks ..

I just walk around like normal and, when an infected agros at me, I line up the shot and hit him in the face with my hatchet. No building exploit, no noise, just a soft 'thump' and continue.

he he i am the axe man for our team, when we are raiding and area, anyone pulls i end the zombie with the axe also, i do hate the new way zombies are in 1.7.2 and if they do continue to keep them that way i will most likely quit the mod, it kills the fun for me and my friends when a zombie can come running up over hill and down all the way in the valley to kill you... even when sneaking

please fix it rocket :/ 1.7.1 was fine, just need tweak the speed and animation/spawn rate for them and they would have been great

I never experienced it until 1.7.2, but I've started finding infected spawned inside the bases of deer stands. Easy kills, since they can't move, but still a bit annoying. I've not noticed too much of a change in behavior between the versions, otherwise. I guess that a single random infected, running across 1km of open field/hill, really isn't that bad. It'll increase situational awareness if nothing else, right? FWIW, I saw a report that in the experimental 1.7.2.1 version, there were over 1,300 infected on the server at once. We may need to get Akimbo Axes!
