Connection issues between you, the server, and the other player.

I've had it happen to me. Had to shoot someone 4 times with an M14 AIM, and they would only break their legs. 2 more shots was enough to kill them.

Yeah, the game has a tendency to desync really bad at times.

I mean stuff like, having a situation where an entire zed population of a small town has frozen still... Or you just won't be able to pick up any items without a 30 second delay. That's when you know its time to run away from that location if you want to have any sensible firefight. Because then you know that there is another player around, who is desyncing really bad.

Which basically means that he can just walk right next to you from around some corner, without you ever even being able to see him, unload a whole mag of bullets to you, and then, suddenly, just when he suddenly appears on your screen, that same moment you just drop dead on the ground for no apparent reason. (...Luckily, this usually works the other way around too.)

Two friends of mine had the opposite happen to them last night. A de-sync while shooting Zeds caused Friend A to shoot Friend B in the back by mistake. It was a Lee Enfield round and Friend B died instantly. Worse, his body then sank into the ground before Friend A could salvage his M4 CCO and the remaining zombies then finished off a guilt-stricken Friend A too.
