Adding some character depth

Recommended Posts

As of right now every single player spawns as the same, a random guy with nothing on except a coyote patrol pack, a bandage, a box of painkillers and a flashlight.

I propose we have some more depth in character customization, by allowing us to choose a "class"

you see, not everybody is the same, some people are civilians, others are military, some civilians are proficient in medical treatment, others in cooking food, others are proficient in engineering, likewise, some soldiers are more proficient in firearms than others, some have better spotting and sniping skills, some are trained to be drivers...

So I suggest we choose a background for our character, and that in such, we start with different gear and skills altogether

The possibilities are endless: spawn as a medic, start with a medic backpack capable of reserving 5 extra slots of items only for medical supplies, have faster treatment animations, etc...

- Start as a field soldier, and as such with a weapon, have better performance with firearms

this doesn't mean we limit the possibilities for a player who chooses one specific class, but that he gains an advantage instead by playing one specific way (teamwork much)

Any opinions are appreciated, as well as judged.

Your ideas are similar to ideas MANY people have had in the past, all have been shot down.

The most that might ever happen is more skins for players and maybe a wider selection of skins for spawning using Player Profiles edit system, but that probably won't happen while the game is in the Alpha stage using Arma2's engine.

No support.

I personally prefer the "we're all the same at first and only what we have and how we behave makes us who we are in the game"-system.

So no support from me either for your idea.

Yep. Nothing new. Classes have been suggested a million and one times. And every time, it's nil.

Besides, why have a predetermined class when you can be a beer-hall hanging drunkard with a nasty vendetta and a cold-hearted demeanor to boot?

I just felt that everyone having an even field of play went against the game's principles...

Yes, and no.

Specially on this sentence :" - Start as a field soldier, and as such with a weapon, have better performance with firearms"

Every one would just spawn and start killing each other, turning this into a deathmatch.

But yes I agree there could be some room for customization, but not as agressive. Something on the lines of:

Medic : 2 extra medic suplies slots, can heal himself and others.

Civilian: start with different supplies, like the flashlight (since it's really a domestic item no reason for military to carry that around) and an extra 2 slots for canned food.

Soldier: can carry one extra side arm*, with 2 more slots for ammo.

*not equiped, but he could have a extra space exclusive to a side arm, and 2 clips.

Something just to give it more depth, but not too much as to unbalance the game.
