SkullFace45 (DayZ) 3 Posted July 11, 2012 HiI'm new to posting threads so I apologize for any mistakes I make in advance :P Firstly if you have not played S.T.A.L.K.E.R and you like DayZ I really recommend you give it a try! Now although Stalker (I cannot be arsed to constantly be putting full stops in XD) is very different from DayZ it also has a very similar look and feel. I was playing it today and it is strange just how alike they are in some ways! Getting to the point, Stalker itself is not a horror or a particularly scary game just like DayZ (I'm sorry but DayZ is not scary, maybe panicky but not scary), but that all changes in Stalker when you enter the tunnels or the labs which are underground. Those of you who have played Stalker will know what I'm banging on about, it has an extremely atmospheric atmosphere and dare I say I cried like a girl when exploring the labs in Stalker. Recently I watched a press conference thingy where Rocket was saying that he was thinking of adding underground structures, now what if the underground instances where like the ones found in Stalker? Instead of just being a survival game you would now have the horror element covered as well. For all of you who haven't played Stalker, I really recommend it, especially if you like DayZ (although like I said, there pretty much completely different... pretty much) but if you can't be arsed I've attached a video I found on youtube of some dude playing through one of the underground levels in Stalker, definitely check it out. I would really love to see something like this in Dayz, now to find out who agrees? XD
sparta436 46 Posted July 11, 2012 I am all for elements of stalker being incorporated into DayZ the atmosphere and the way colonies are built (like in abandoned ships and stuff) would fit right in to DayZ. I also like the outfits stalker has and think they would be awesome for the Eastern European zombie apocalypse survivor. The weapon health system would also be awesome (in fact i just suggested that on the forums 5 minutes ago).
Stoop_Kid 2 Posted July 11, 2012 Without adding new infected, or breaking the realism by throwing in the floating boxes, the underground can only be so scary. However, the tight corners and low light will certainly add to the tension; and I'm sure the loot will be balanced with large amounts of zeds. Frankly though, I'm going to stay the hell away from bunkers unless the loot is extraordinary.

What I would like to see or rather hear is more creative use of sound. I mean like in that S.T.A.L.K.E.R video, the use of sound is outstanding. Shame there won't be anymore :(

The sound will be key to making the underground spooky. Minecraft has a similar sound engine when you're underground. The jump to Arma 3, or the standalone game Rocket is envisioning, could probably fix the audio short-comings of the current game.

I would like to have a creepy atmosphere somewhere in Dayz! XD
Zombiestubble 4 Posted July 11, 2012 Ahem, gentlemen.http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=13589&highlight=STALKERBut you do have to realize, Chenarus is sort of devoild of underground elements. If we wanted more underground elements, then perhaps a new map would be in order. In fact, Namalsk has an underground area.http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7781
hishnik 23 Posted July 11, 2012 If i'm not mistaken, from what i've gathered reading the forums, underground is impossible for Arma 2 engine. That being said, having caves/bunkers/etc would be absolutely awesome
ZomboWTF 527 Posted July 11, 2012 i think dayZ is great, the map however, is the most terrible for the modnothin scary, not even the slightest, and way to much open terrain and safe woods of nothingnessim all for underground bunkers, let them have one to three military spawns and a whole mass of zombies, since they only can walk indoorsmaybe even give underground some new spawns like the vintorez , Steir Aug or thermal vision (useable with no sort of scope, that would be so OP^^)however, i dont think a new map or underground awesomness will come before arma
Dreganius (DayZ) 55 Posted July 12, 2012 I'm for certain elements of STALKER being implemented into DayZ, so long as they retain a DayZ atmosphere to them. Keep in mind that a core idea in STALKER was radiation and mind-control/destruction, so parts that relate to that are much less in line with DayZ.But, yes, I support the idea of the underground bases being very... Atmospheric. As it is now, I add my own atmosphere to DayZ. How? I play certain Fallout tracks when I raid certain areas. For example, I listen to when I raid the Northwest Airstrip. Rocket would be legally able to, until he sells DayZ as an indie title (at which point they can either just drop the models or try to get permission to use them). DemonGroover 8836 Posted July 12, 2012 Military bunkers would be shit scary and highly valuable loot wise.Searching an underground complex with only a torch, chemlight or flares would be intense
Turk (DayZ) 82 Posted July 31, 2012 (edited) Dayz in stalkers X-ray graphics engine (or even the Havok with destructable/rebuildable eniroments)yes please.i guess its a bit late now, arma2 on paper sounds perfect but in reality it is holding dayz potential back, fighting off zeds needs to be a more dynamic fluent affair and use melee efficiently from gun butts to picking up sticks, pipes and anything (axes are ok but i've yet to get a crowbar swinging.) hell even the ability to jump (realistically) would be revolutionary :) and lets not imagine what it would be like to open, close doors, walk up down ladders & heaven forbid pick up an item with the press of 1 button! after all in real life it dosen't require upto 15 seconds just to get a triangle to appear to then select an action, you'd jump on that ladder, kick that door open and be gone, not in arma2/dayz its "if i can just highlight this gate then i can open it eventually..."... ouch my asss is being munched grrr!. same with trying to grab a weapon, mouse over it, scroll select and click oh zzz i fell asleep.the standalone is going to besome kind of arma2 source thing - i don't have high hopes, i wish i could be enthusiastic but by the time its remotely fixed i'll be long bored.
