I'm Now a Deathmatch Player

Recommended Posts

The community wants a mindless deathmatch, so now I bring them a mindless deathmatch. I honestly don't care anymore.

Feels like I'm playing a griefer-simulation more than anything at the moment.

Same thing has happened to me way to many times. Some people even go cold enough to lure you in and make you think they are friendly then while you aren't looking they shoot you in the back! :@

Stop saying deathmatch. It makes you look stupid every time you do it.

But that's what it's pretty much become. We're just calling it as we see it.

How about we call it a murder simulator instead

Stop saying deathmatch.

Will it make you happier if I call it monkey-land?

Throw fecies at your fellow monkeys! it's just too much fun.

A guy being chased by a zombie literally stopped running to aim at my head and kill me.

Wow... This right here....

This is a perfect analogy for what's wrong in this game right now.

Eh, I've pondered just killing people on sight before, but I never have. Heck I've never killed anyone in this game yet. Mainly because if they're not friendly they can just one-shot me and I'm definitely not going to shoot first. I find befriending people and buddying up much more fun than the possibility of killing other players. It's really satisfying to finally find a person to stick with for awhile and go into bigger cities and towns with and, to me, it's worth the risk of getting shot. I'd rather die in this game than be someone who kills on sight constantly. But that's how I want to play it, and other people are free to play it how they wish.

As I've said in other threads, they need to make zombies the main enemy in this game. I'll do a rough quote of myself: It's DayZ for zombies, not DayB for bandits. Grouping up needs to have more incentives and being a lone wolf, particularly a lone wolf bandit, in a zombie apocalypse should be very, very hard to accomplish. Strength in numbers is how it should be.

It'd make me happier if you made an actual attempt to be accurate. However, all you're interested is having the game changed to suit your own personal interests, so you do something extreme like call it a deathmatch game, compare it to CoD/CS, etc.

It makes you look stupid. You are stupid. ArmA2 in itself doesn't even come close to that description and it's an insult to the BIS team. You need to learn what open world PVP is. Clearly you do not understand how it works or is intended to work.

I find this hilarious to be honest. Where does the value of my opinion on the game differ from yours? You are a class A hypocrit.

I was that frinedly guy until I wasn't shot in face...so 2 months have passed and I still kill everything on sight.

If you want frendlies, get some of people you know and trust get skype or TS and then go in groups.

Yelling '' IM FRIENDLY'' and running to guy with scoped lee einfield across 300metres isn't right move.

Herp derp deathmatch herp derp.

As soon as you can figure out how to prevent the zombies from attacking you while you deathmatch safely, don't call it 'deathmatching'. It's stupid and you sound stupid saying it.

It's pretty easy.

Snipe or use a silenced/quiet weapon.

My signature used to say "Universally Friendly - If you'll shoot me while I salute you, you can have my beans." Then I got shot saluting people 10 or so times. It got old. Now I avoid PvP but won't hesitate to shoot if I'm stuck. All of my murders have been when I was trapped and couldn't avoid the encounter, like in the top of an apartment building and someone else starts up the stairs.

I'll be honest. If you really want to avoid the PvP "Deathmatch" or whatever each individual chooses to call it, play on underpopulated servers with only 10-15 other players. The threat is still very real but the encounter rate is much smaller and I've found most other players on these servers are looking to avoid outright banditry. I've even found the encounters more thrilling than playing on a full 50 slot server because they aren't happening every 5 minutes. And those frustrating murders are still there too. I was recently shot in the back scouting a deer stand on a server that only had 5 people left on it.

Definition of death match

noun

  • 1(in wrestling) a match in which many of the normal rules do not apply, typically leading to a more violent contest.

2(in computer gaming) a mode of play in which the aim is to kill the characters controlled by other players.

Does this not describe the general attitude of experience players in Dayz?

That sounds better than deathmatch. At the end of the day you still had to gear up before you can go on a killing spree, and when you die you are usually miles from any action. Stop being a baby, pick yourself up, get a good group of survivors together (prefer IRL friends but people you have played with before can usually be trusted), or go play a different game. If the game was easy it would suck, what makes this game fun is the time spent gathering crap just to be murdered for no reason as you drive near a population center. When I get a character that lives for multiple days and countless hospital, airfield, and stary military runs I feel a sense of accomplishment. If I avoid every dangerous place out of fear than I have become a sissy who will die in some epic display of stupidity that will never be as fun as someone murdering me. Once in awhile you get revenge which is awesome. I stole a car from in between stary and novy the other day, only to be gunned down by the car's owners. I was ejected and knocked out for thirty seconds and they thought I was dead, I popped up and added two murders to my count. I still laugh at the guy who called out friendly in the middle of this encounter.

Also, people need to stop running up on people yelling I am friendly. I do not trust you in the first place and you yelling that only gives me a little comfort considering my buddies on skype will yell the same thing and then get on Skype and say they will murder the person first chance they get. Try yelling friendly from cover, or just watch what the player is doing. If he is already in a group odds are they will murder you, if they are alone looking for gear they might welcome the chance for help. Welcome to the breakdown of humanity, good luck.

Grouping up already has huge advantages. If I want to lone wolf into stary I have a high probability of being murdered. But if I am in a group of three or more (even two in a pinch) I can have someone on overwatch on the hills above the military tents calling out zombie positions and giving warnings of survivor sightings. Plus to give a blood transfusion requires another player, and someone always breaks their leg without having morphine (I am the medic so I never have this problem constantly running around with at least four blood bags and four morphine shots if not more). You can tailor skill sets too, I am a brawler who does not mind having to respawn and loot the coast, while other players are cautious types who will set up bases and find vehicles but dislike going into the places frequented by survivors. If some players can not see the benefits to going in a group then they have not experienced this game in the way intended and are probably server hoping for loot or disconnecting to avoid danger. I am not complaining too much about those tactics (I will say it really bugs me when some little sissy logs off during a firefight but not the point), it just tends to dilute the need for cooperation.

Cool. I haven't read this exact same thread 400 times already or anything. The problem is that no one can trust you when you say you're friendly because bandits say they're friendly and then kill you. Facts of life.

The problem is, 400+ threads = thousands of players who think this sh*t needs to change. You can tell me to go back to BF3/CoD or whatever the hell you want, but the fact remains that MOST people are not happy with the complete and total lack of interaction with strangers in-game. And for f*cks sake, don't even tell me to go to a forum or some crap to band together with a group. At that point those people are no longer strangers and it took something OUTSIDE of the game itself to make cooperation work. Currently there is no cooperation between players in Day Z unless it was pre-planned or they're two unarmed newbspawns.

I've been sitting back for two weeks now waiting to see what happens with this game and so far it just seems to be getting glitchier and more broken. Instead of doing something to foster player cooperation and improve something people have been harping about for weeks/months now, we got bear traps....awesome?

Here's the thing - this game is a toolbox designed to give a bunch of stimulus under which people will play out their own stories. I'm sorry you can't hack it, but since they took away the starting weapons I've seen more teamwork and meeting up with strangers than in the entire game before it. This is a social game and people are going to do what they want to.

You're right, you need to meet up with people who are unarmed to trust them by default. When you've got stuff you've got something to lose and that potential distrust is incredible. It's such a driving part of the game. I've met so many people and had incredibly tense standoffs - some that ended in death, others that ended in teamwork. I'm not going to tell you to go to a forum and find people, but it's not a traditional MMO so it's not PVP or PVE or any other defined thing. The lack of definition makes it, the individual behaviours make it.

You need to strongly consider whether or not this game is for you because the people complaining are an extreme minority.

No one gives a shit. Go die, then write a thread about how being a bandit is too hard.

I also got killed multiple times, even with a hatchet picked up in front of me by an unarmed player, but i also found friendly people, one even gave me a gun and a ride on his chopper. Maybe you are spending too much time in or near big cities, I got better luck finding friendlies away from the shore.
