Official DayZ Backstory?

So, I've been looking around but nothing, what is the backstory of DayZ? What caused the apocolypse? What happened before? Etc.

alls we are told is the infected are based off of something discussed between rocket and his brotehr (who works with viruses) and that the infection is some sort of mutation in a virus. nothing more has been discloused, though it likely wont be any diffrent then lets say 28 days later, or whatever the virus is in walking dead, a rapidly spreading virus infects people, military move in to stop, over run, apocolypse.

Maybe this is what happend !

Very early on During the recent civil unrest in chernarus , organized well armed gurrila/millitas/insurgents supported by defective local military units loyal to the rebellion sized control of key areas around chernarus.

Amongst these key points was a town called Vybor . Control of Vybor was important for several reasons , its proximity to the airfield and access to its industrial center where amongst them.

Elements of the 3rd guards moterized supported by a company of t-72s moved in to secure the area supported by several groups of local millita.

2 weeks into the conflict and an intel report comes to coallition high command reading > viktor kiskoff belived to be a high ranking member of the civilan/millita movement has sret up his HQs in Vybor due to the high level

of enemy units supported by armour in and around Vybor it is recommended that a black op hit team would not be suitable for this misssion.The author strongly suggest an air strike immeiadetly to take this target out.

The decision is made to put several seal teams as close to Vybor to mark target building for a strike by F-22s .

The raid goes ahead and not only does it get viktor kiskoff but also damages the nearby powerplant. High command gets the news of a successful raid and nothing more is thought of it.

It was only 2 days later when the first cases of infection where reported by units around Vybor.Subject would show a high fever which would last for 24hrs then go into an almost catacomic state before suddenly reanimating as mindless rampaging flesh eating infected Zs , it wasnt long before the situation got out of control , by the time the local command structure could figure out what the hell was going on it was allready to late .

The rest is now history and we all have to come to terms with the new reality of the infected apocolypse.

Turns out that a report a few days later was drag up by inteligence officers appataining to the Vybor plant ! concerns were raised several years prior to the current situation about the plant not actually being a power plant but in fact a biological and chemical weapons research facility.It was over looked as the people behind the company turned out to be western banking cartels !.

The air strike had been using bunker busters ! the collatral damage sustained to the Vybor plant just happend to rupture one of the secure holding facilatys where the likes of these biological weapons were stored.

Not being a fully weaponized agent yet , and in early stages of development the infection virus was an airbourne virus as well as contact.Its initial life span was a mere 24hrs before it would die natrually .

But it would allready do its damage within that time , indeed it is steal going strong through the allready infected subjects that act as carriers for the virus.

Back at coallition comman a top level meeting is held. top members of the military and goverment are present. The pervious unread intel report on Vybor is deemed national security top level clearnece , it will be forgotten.The blame will be put on the rebels who willing bombed and released this virus into the air.No more will be said about the matter .

Now we will have to format a recue plan ! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The story is already, more or less, set, ya derps :P (no offense).

I quote from the page:

"A 225 km2 open world post-soviet state and one of the areas hit by a new and presently unknown infection which has wiped out most of the world's population. You are one of the few who have survived and now you must search this new wasteland in order to fight for your life against what is left of the indigenous population, now infected with the disease."

So, basically forget about NATO / UN / RUSSIA coming in to help IF that story won't be changed or so. Then again, factions like the Chernarus Quarantine Force have their own backstory where Russia is safe, for example.

I guess it's up to the players to come up with something, though we can assume that it spread BEYOND Chernarus. Heck, it'll likely won't even be the source, just another state that was hit.

I for one would like to know how long it has been since day X there though. I mean, there's no populace left, military left the area, too. Most cars are, apparently, destroyed or gone, too. Yet, loot is kicking of course (gameplay reason I guess).

I personally wish the story would get more "interactive" or expand, in addition to gameplay. Heck, imagine attacks by government / military remnants on towns, another threat to players. No, not via ground units (so people COULD, in theory, get easy loot or even vehicles), but perhaps bombing runs on places via planes.

This would add a more chaotic atmosphere (apocalypse still going on) to all of it, instead of a "Fallout-like" scenario (already happened [long] ago).
