<- Hatchetman- having difficulties transitioning to guns

Recommended Posts

I started playing a couple of days ago and instantly fell in love with the hatchet. The silent nature of the weapon was what attracted me the most (and I really don't mind 1shot-1kill.) I tried using guns, but they always seemed to aggro zombies and send them flying at me from everywhere. I am usually always in control of a situation with the hatchet.

I really want to start carrying a primary weapon because I want to start venturing into military areas where there might be other players who want to kill me, but I'm genuinely afraid to carry a weapon because they're so freaking loud and dinnerbell-like to the zombies. With the increased aggro range of zombies, I'm even more afraid of running around with one of them extreme noisemakers.

Are guns really that loud? Will they aggro a whole town if I start picking off the zombies in my path? Am I just being a big sissy?

[EDIT] If only the hatchet wouldn't replace my primary weapon... *drool*

I feel the same way, hatchets are quiet, they don't attract other players or zombies. I wish they added a "tool" section where it could become your tool and you can still carry a primary and sidearm.

They do have a tool section in which the hatchet goes into. I'm assuming you mean the hatchet staying in the toolbelt and being able to be used as a weapon.

Considering how easy zeds get aggroed in 1.7.2, I'd rather have a weapon to defend myself better with.

Most weapons you can hear quite far away. Of course, assault rifles, LMG's, Snipers, being the loudest regarding zeds. Slightly less noticable difference if you're a human listening to the gunshots. Go to the DayZ wiki and look at the weapons section. It says how loud a weapon is. But like I said, if you're firing in a town, someone will hear regardless if they're near the town and you're almost always going to have additional zeds coming your way. Louder weapons=more zeds.

My recommendation. Keep the hatchet until you find a silenced primary weapon. Its what I did.

Having a hatchet vs a primary weapon when scavenging a heli crash site will make zero difference. Because if youre going to get killed there its either going to be from all the zombies that spawn around it. Or sniped from a distance before you even know someone was watching you.

That is unless you want to start sniping noobies also, then just equip it to the tool-belt when you find a scoped weapon.
