StealthyBrayden 6 Posted July 11, 2012 So...I came across this site (www.kickstarter.com) and realised that game developers are putting up their ideas and getting funding simply by offering people who donate a reward in return. Wouldn't it be great if Rocket were to start one of these up and be given the ability to make a DayZ engine etc, meaning less bugs, more opportunity...!I would love to see Rocket place a request for funding on the site and see the production of a DayZ game begin!Anywho, if you think that Rocket should make an application on the site requesting funds, post below! Let's see if this could work?
Dingus (DayZ) 429 Posted July 11, 2012 (edited) I think he brought this up once, and worried that the game, it's direction, and it's production would be no longer really his to decide. Accepting money from other sources (just like politics) can lead those sources to expect certain things, despite the agreement to the exchange.Given that Day Z is being credited for the sales of many thousands of new copies of Arma 2, and his connection to BI, I doubt he will have a lot of trouble getting his standalone done. It's just not ready to be standalone yet.I believe kickstarter is great and has its place, but I can appreciate the fear of having a vision compromised in such a way. baltsar 25 Posted July 11, 2012 Yeah it's a great idea, but Bohemia studio maybe wanna make some bucks on it? Building up a new engine takes time and i personally can't wait. This is a great concept and engine!
MeatAbstract 47 Posted July 11, 2012 If it comes to a fully produced game, Kickstarter is definately a option worth looking at. It's worked for so many other projects (Double Fine used Kickstarter) and I even donated money to Ancestors for their European tour and helped bands produce albums through it.So yes, Rocket should look at Kickstarter if he ever wants to make this into a full retail product. I'm sure he'd get plenty of backing given the amount of people the play and enjoy DayZ.
StealthyBrayden 6 Posted July 11, 2012 All true... But, I think for future reference, Rocket should think on it :)
KWilt 157 Posted July 11, 2012 No. Please, god no. Not another Kickstarter.I love the site to death, but rocket doesn't need a Kickstarter to fund DayZ. I'm sure enough of us actually like the game, and are willing to donate even a small amount. And while it's probable that he's not, I really think rocket should be getting some form of compensation for the fact that he's pretty much boosted sales tenfold and more for ARMA II. Not that he made the game awesome or anything, but I'm quite sure he's sold more copies in 3 months than Bohemia sells in a year's time. (I can only estimate on those numbers. But you'd have to be an idiot to say that DayZ hasn't boosted ARMA II sales substantially.)
