Very dark for a few minutes on server join

Recommended Posts

Date/Time: Last 2 days at least to current

What happened: Whenever I join a server it takes several minutes(around 5) for the light level to get set correctly. It is pitch black until this happens. If I leave and rejoin it resets to pitch black. Not a gradual fade in of light either, after a few minutes there will be light in an instant. A friend has had the same issue.

Where you were: All servers

What you were doing: Anything

*Also other info such as:

Version: X.23

More info: it seems moving out the area where I loaded in makes the light change occur faster. Very dangerous for me to join a server at night as the only thing I can see is when I use a light source, as opposed to when the light loads and I can at least see the difference between objects like trees and sky.

For now putting myself in a position where I just walk forward for a few hundred meters will probably work.

I should have noted in the original post this is at night. The day seems fine, but could be doing this and is just less drastic.

Edit: Why didn't I just edit the first post?

I'm the same except i havent managed to get it to reset to normal levels like you did, if i join at night I'm basically a free kill as all I can see is the stars, seems like it's something to do with the moon not appearing for me.

I believe this is just a part of ArmA. It takes a few minutes for your eyes to adjust to less light (like in real life). Try walking out your back door at night when there are no street lights/porch lights, and it takes a few minutes to adjust to 'night vision'.

ArmA has this to simulate periods of dusk/dawn when our eyes change and it becomes hard to spot targets. Also makes it the optimal time to attack.

Hope it helps.

IRL it is a gradual change over a 30 minute+ period for you rods to return from being "bleached" by bright light. For aviation 30 minutes is considered enough time for your rods to recover adequately to safely operate in low-light.

This is an instantaneous change like the moon just came out, or the stars just turned on.

If it's a limitation of the Arma engine I get that, but it's in no way realistic for 5 minutes for rod recovery and a lightswitch gets flipped. The fact that moving makes it quicker makes me think it is a limitation of the engine, but not connected to rod recovery.

Thanks for the input though!
