Joining a server with incorrect version kills your character?

I had a massive amount of excellent gear. Ghillie suit, M24. silenced M9. I tried to join a server with the incorrect version, and i spawn on a beach with a fresh character? I rejoined a server with the correct version and now i have absolutly nothing......

Until all these ridiculous bugs are ironed out they should just up the weapon spawns ten fold. Would certainly make the game more interesting, its already a deathmatch.
