[HOW TO] Survive Starting Without A Gun

Recommended Posts

I'm going to try this, but all I will say is so far all I have managed to do is run around being chased by zombies.

No gun is very hard.

Bump for old time sake, 1-2 things are out dated but I think this could still help new players.

This should be a sticky. Great job.

I might add that crouching through bushes you might loose some zombies if you get overun and you don't have a weapon.

There's usually medical equipment on the roof of the hospital if you have no means to break the glass. Ladder is round back :)

Yes, this was wrote before they implemented that mechanic, I'm on my phone but when I get home I'll edit the post if I can.

Good guide, it is worth noting on the OP that hatchets are a very effective starter weapon that can allow you to be more mobile in cities, due to the silent killing of zombies. Also morphine does spawn everywhere, it's just hospitals are sure things. I would take out the bit about factories being a good place for weapons, they are on the spawn list, but i have never actually seen one spawn there in all my time playing, scavenging for car parts.

As far as zombie mechanics, I've been agroed even while prone now, they seem to have super hearing. I usually don't bother trying to be too stealthy when going into a city because I know all the ways to lose them easily. It's better to stay mobile and hidden than crawling around on the street, being a sitting duck for bandits.

one thing i noticed today, regarding road flares etc...

Well first of all i found a tractor and ran it into a tree near the center of a village, well it blew up and lit up the area (night time), the near by zombies just ignored it and continued walking the direction there was (away from the tractor) so I went prone and went away from the blazing tractor and found cover, I then lite a road flare and threw it close to a zombie again he kept walking as if it was not even there... is this a bug because I have thrown road flares and glowsticks before and the zombies dont interact with them at all.. even tried smoke granades on a day time and again no interaction, this has happened every time I tried to distract them and found it does the same on every server I go on..

any ideas on this?

I have noticed they don't attract as much to road flares or cans/bottles since i wrote this article a couple months ago, however i still see them agro flares at night and i threw like 20 smoke grenades yesterday and they all chase them. Im no server admin but i believe the admins have certain settings to control zombie agro so maybe its a server setting.

There's typically a box that spawns in the back right by the ladder as well. I tend to avoid going on the roof whenever possible because you can be easily shot at from most common sniping spots in cherno/elektro with little cover and no escape.

But I'm just minding my own business, why would anyone take a shot at me? :(

J/K, Thanks
